In general, there are 2 strategies

- SCANNING : reading fast to find a specific word
- SKIMMING : reading fast to understand the point of a sentence/a paragraph

1. Answering MAIN IDEA CORRECTLY

MENENTUKAN IDE POKOK

Ide Pokok /main idea : kalimat/ide yang menjadi poin utama/ poin penting
pada sebuah paragraph.

CIRI – CIRI PERTANYAAN :

- what is the topic of the passage ?
- what is the subject of the passage ?
- what is the main idea of the passage ?
- what is the author’s main point in the passage ?
- with what is the author primarily concerned ?
- Which of the following would be the best title?

TIPS :
- baca soal , baca option dipahami
- baca kalimat pertama paragraph ( atau kalimat awal pada tiap
paragraph)
atau kalimat akhhir
- pahami ide / poin pada kalimat pertama
- skimming kalimat berikutnya tuk menentukan hubungan ide/poin tiap
kalimat dengan kalimat awal paragraph
- Eliminasi pilihan ganda yang ide pokoknya tidak merangkum semua
kalimat/detail pada paragraph

My house is beautiful. I say it because it is designed uniquely in its colour
and shape. Its building shape is triangle that makes it look like a pyramid,
while the painted colours are various. For an illustration, the door’s colour is
blue and it is like a diamond.

- Skimming paragraph berikutnya
- Tentukan apakah informasi pada paragraph-paragraf itu :
a. memberi defenisi
b. memberi alasan
c. memberi contoh ( for example , for an instance.. )
d. saing bertentengan / argument ( in contrary / on the other hand )
e. saling support ( it is supported by … john agrees to .. )

TIPS :
a. carilah pronoun (kata ganti ) pada text
b. bacalah kata benda pada kalimat sebelum kata ganti
c. cocokkan kata ganti dengan kata benda ( subject / object) pada kalimat
