 Smart Rs232 Overview
• The Smart control can use Tape mode to
save both Mazatrol and Eia programs. There
is no CMT I/O communication available.
• Can also save machine data like parameters
and tool data in G10 format.
• This document will show cabling
connections, parameters, and settings for
Eia program transfer of Mazak’s CMT
software.

 Cabling- SIO connection to Op. Panel

SIO

This drawing shows the SIO connection on NC Unit A1 and

an optional cable which brings this connection out to
operating panel. See next page for actual picture.

 Data I/O Parameters
Setting F163 bit 6

Select PARAM

Press EIA/ISO
[F]

 Setting F163 bit 6 to 1

Go to second page, and move cursor to F163. Press Bit Input button
and set BIT 6 to value of 1. This enables the Tape I/O menu on Data

Set parameters as shown above.

Baudrate may be adjusted if needed.

 PC Communication Settings
Note that the PC side settings are 19200, Even parity, 2 Stop
bits, and 7 data bits. The Smart NC side is 19200 baud, No parity,
2 Stop bits and 8 data bits. This is normal settings and will
work properly. The Baud Rate and Stop Bits must match.
Below is results of savind Eia program with the CMT
software(CCWMPD0160E) from Mazak USA.

 Setting up PC side

Select the Change to EIA Mode

 Setting PC side

Press Setup and set baudrate, parity, stop bits, and data bits.

 Setting up PC
Press Enable Send/Receive

Display changes like below with green outline.

Enter in a name for file to save or will name by time/date stamp.

 Sending Program from Smart

Select Tape.

Press Punch and Enter in work number.

NC->Tape.

 To Send to Smart

Select All Load

NC <- Tape

On PC side,Select

On Smart , press START

On PC side, Select Open to start transmit of file.
