Would you consider Encyclopedia Britannica’s decision to discontinue the printing of

hardbound volumes a strategic move? Why or why not?
We must consider Encyclopedia Britannica’s decision a strategic move to keep up their pace
with competitors and changing preferences courtesy of time progress. With the emergence of
CD ROM encyclopedia and Wikipedia and other websites as more convenient by means of
gather information. Encyclopedia has to step up their game and must Be willing to accept
change for their business to survive. Although they had CD ROM but it did not flourish due to
the expensive costing, they changed their strategy into trying different channel and medium to
provide services and so they created a website that is partially free due to its interactive feature
which include students learning materials link to their curriculum. Their sales with their digital
education increases, so they decided to continue with digital education and end the hardbound
Volumes of Encyclopedia Britannica.

2.What were the disruptors that made the company arrive at this decision? Research if
necessary.
Disruptors are those who dives a business to take a new path and innovate their products or
services. It is a change that creates another change like a ripple effect. Disruptors are often
linked to the fast moving of technology industry wherein they are most likely to succeed over a
period of time. In Encyclopedia Britannica’s situation, the disruptors that drove them to the
decision of ending hardbound volumes are the emergence of CD ROM encyclopedia and the
internet based encyclopedia like Wikipedia. People had lesser time to read books and they want
something that is convenient and not costly in which CD ROM encyclopedia became popular to
many, and then Wikipedia is free and accessible to all. This lead Encyclopedia Britannica to
innovate and keep up with them until they created the successful internet based Encyclopedia
that is interactive with their digital education suited for the student.

3.Do you think that people will still use Encyclopedia Britannica even if it is not in hardbound
anymore?
a.Provide points that will prove that people prefer Encyclopedia Britannica over Wikipedia and
other websites or the other way around.
For me, I prefer to used Encyclopedia than Wikipedia because the online encyclopedia articles
and books are more secured rather than Wikipedia. Users or guest cannot edit the information
in encyclopedia while in Wikipedia, anyone has the access and they can press the edit button
and change the information that they feel to change. Most of the schools, universities, and other
education companies are using encyclopedia’s book than Wikipedia. Encyclopedia is more
reliable than Wikipedia and one of the reasons why many schools are using encyclopedia and
gathering information from it. However, people have different perspective, in choosing between
Wikipedia and other websites over encyclopedia as long as it gives a precise information to the
user. Moreover, Wikipedia is more well known nowadays to the people especially to students
