**ARREST MADE IN EXTORTION CASE LINKED TO KIEFER RAVENA'S ALLEGED PHOTO SCANDAL**

Date: March 29, 2017

Location: Quezon City, Philippines

The Philippine National Police Anti-Cyber Crime Group (PNP-ACG) successfully apprehended a suspect
allegedly involved in an extortion scheme related to Kiefer Ravena's purported photo scandal. The
incident, which unfolded on March 29, 2017, led to the arrest of 22-year-old Kristoffer Monico Ng, an
individual identified as an Ateneo graduate, like Ravena.

The arrest transpired as a result of a well-coordinated entrapment operation carried out by the PNP-
ACG. The suspect, Ng, was apprehended after purportedly receiving the extortion money in question.
A video shared on Twitter by ABS-CBN reporter Maan Macapagal showcased the moment of Ng's
arrest by members of the PNP-ACG.

Ravena, a former star athlete at Ateneo de Manila University, issued a statement addressing the
matter. He alleged that Ng had threatened to expose sensitive photos and had attempted to coerce
money from him. According to reports, Ravena claimed that an individual, who had initially engaged
in explicit communication with him via Viber, had subsequently demanded financial compensation
(50,000 pesos) under the threat of making their exchanges public on social media. In response to
these alleged threats, Ravena complied.

Ng countered these claims, asserting that he had offered information in exchange for monetary
compensation. However, he denied possessing or sharing the explicit content on social media
platforms.

Following an inquest on March 31, 2017, the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office found substantial
evidence to support the indictment of Ng on two criminal counts:

1. Violation of Article 294 of the Revised Penal Code (RPC), specifically pertaining to Robbery with
Violence Against or Intimidation Against Persons, as stipulated by the Cybercrime Prevention Act of
2012.

2. Breach of the Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act of 2009 (“Anti-Voyeurism Act”).

The case sheds light on the increasing prevalence of cybercrimes and the legal measures in place to
address them. As the legal proceedings unfold, it is anticipated that further details regarding the
motives and evidence linked to the alleged extortion attempt will emerge. The successful arrest and
subsequent legal action underscore the commitment of law enforcement agencies to combat cyber-
related offenses and uphold the privacy rights of individuals involved.
