Key Task - EO 2.

5 - Demonstrates an ability to prepare and operate fresh water

generating plant, (start / stop).

My duty on this task is to prepare the fresh water valves, start and stop the fresh
water generator with guidance of the 3rd Assistant Engineer.

Starting Procedure;

- Open the valves on the suction (556V) and discharge (555V) of the ejector pump.

- Open overboard valve for combined brine/air ejector discharge (553V).

- Open Seawater İnlet Valve from Ejector (110V).

- Open the combined brine/air ejector outlet valve (552V).

- Switch on power supply.

- Close air Bleed valve ( VA-E1-01).

- Close the Seawater By-Pass Valve ( if the seawater is more than 20*C).

After preparing the above list, ı started the Ejector pump and switched on the
salinometer under the supervision of the third assistand enginner. We waited for
the vacuum to be generated at 90%. I checked the pressure at the ejector inlet that
its between 3-4 bar.

After vacuum reached the 90% ;

- Open the Hotwater ( Jacket Cooling Water) outlet valve to middle (50%) and slowly
open the Hotwater ( Jacket Cooling Water) inlet valve fully.

- By direction of the third assistand enginner, ı closed the hotwater by-pass valve
slightly(about 10-15%) for reach the specified temperature of the intlet and outlet
hotwater. Also ı checked boiling temperature thermometer on brine outlet.İts about
40-45*C.

- We observed on the flow sight glass that water is generated. I started the
freshwater pump and set the salinity alarm point to 10ppm. When the salinity level
dropped below the set alarm point we checked the water meter for amount of water
produced.

After that ı connected the chemical hose to the feed water line and adjust to
app.70. The other button at 100% and started the chemical dosing pump.

Stopping Procedure;

By direction of the third assistand enginner, ı opened the hotwater by-pass valve
fully.
I closed the hotwater inlet valve fully and after hotwater outlet valve, after that
stopped the fresh water pump. We waited for cool down fresh water generator by
running the ejector pump.
I stopped the ejector pump and opened the air bleed valve.
I closed seawater inlet valve(110V), ejector outlet valve(552V) and ejector
overboard valve(553V).
