sure to provide proper citation and list of references, as deemed appropriate.
CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
This chapter highlights the idea that motivates the researchers to conduct this study. Specifically, it
presents the background of the study, statement of the problem, objectives and significance of the study, scope
and delimitations, as well as operational definitions of key terms used in this study.
Globalization creates opportunities and challenges for learners in higher education to emphasis on
information and communication technologies (ICTs) such as internet uses (Macharia & Nyakwende, 2011). The
internet is useful for searching information easily and helps students to do their assignments with just only
search on search engine that they want to know. It also let them to interact with each other for exchanging their
idea and information from a different location in a same time. The internet is the key information and
communication technology that led to a worldwide revolutionary change in the information scenario.
According to Siraj (2015), the interaction between students offers them to gain different perspectives on
a problem discussion by sharing one's own learning activities with other learners into problem solving
strategies. So, internet-based learning increase students’ satisfaction with learning as a very important mediating
role (Hsieh, 2011). The internet is developed to serve as a platform for various activities for all age groups in
society (Akin-Adaramola, 2014). The internet is a technology that has become an enormous part of people's
daily lives. Through its ability to act as a support medium in different functions for which people use it, the
internet was introduced to academic institutions as a tool to enhance student's academic experience in the mid-
resources, and services. It has become a driving force of the economy and has provided employment,
transformed industries, improved infrastructure, and provided efficient communication among enterprises and
individuals across the globe. With a slow Internet connection, citizens are less likely to be motivated to
participate in today’s information society. In some countries, the essential role of this tool is well understood,
and the right to broadband Internet access as a means of communication is spoken of as a fundamental right.
When it comes to providing the nation with Internet access, the Philippines has been steadily catching up with
The country established its first ever online connection on March 29, 1994. Such a milestone opened the
doors for progress, allowing Filipinos to access all the information the Internet could offer. The Philippines was
named the fastest growing Internet population in the last five years with a growth of 531%, and its population is
predicted to reach a 66 million mark this year. Likewise, the country has been known as the “texting capital of
the world” and the “social media capital of the world” at various times over the last few years. The level of
consumer engagement with mobile and technology has come to differentiate the country from other fast-
To address the current research problem, this study will focus on how to make the internet connection of
Ave Maria College more convenient and flexible for the usage of the students. In this connection, the current
researchers decided to create the “Integrating Internet Connection for AMC Campus System”, which will
enhance and boost the internet connection of the campus and will give satisfaction to everyone. It is hoped that
with this proposed study, Ave Maria’s connection will improve and be better for educational research purposes
of the students.
This study attempts to develop the Integrating Internet Connection for AMC Campus System.

This study aims to develop the Integrating Internet Connection for AMC Campus System. It is important
to a particular school to have an internet connection to be used by the students for their academic and research
purposes. The system will be able to give vouchers to the students for the faster and easier access on the internet
connection. The system will then read the specified and unique vouchers. Hence, such findings will be very

Researchers may increase their ability and expertise in constructing and designing a system that meets
the needs of the school and community. This research could be used as part of their training and practice in
This study attempted to develop the Integrating Internet Connection for AMC Campus System. To
delimit its scope, the study mainly focused first, to identify the features of the Integrating Internet Connection
for AMC Campus System. Second, to identify the process needed to access or use the Integrating Internet
Connection for AMC Campus System. Third, to identify the requirements needed to develop the Integrating
Internet Connection for AMC Campus System. And fourth, to determine how the respondents feel about the
proposed Integrating Internet Connection for AMC Campus System, and how useful and appropriate the system
is for Ave Maria College. The system’s goal is to give a convenient and flexible internet connection to the
To gain a better understanding of the terms used in the study, the researchers defined them conceptually
and operationally.
Extension Wire. An extra wire used to take electricity to a piece of electrical equipment when it is an
Fiber. Fiber-optic internet, commonly called fiber internet or simply “fiber,” is a broadband connection
that can reach speeds of up to 940 Megabits per second (Mbps), with low lag time (CenturyLink.com, 2023).
In this study, fiber is used for allowing the transmission of information end-to-end.
Memory Card. A memory card is a type of storage device that is used for storing media and data files.
It provides a permanent and non-volatile medium to store data and files from the attached device. Memory cards
are commonly used in small, portable devices, such as cameras and phones (Techopedia.com, 2023).
In this study, memory card is used in order for storing the software.
Mini PC. A nettop (or miniature PC, Mini PC or Smart Micro PC) is a small-sized, inexpensive, low-
power, legacy-free desktop computer designed for basic tasks such as web browsing, accessing web-based
In this study, a mini PC would execute the instructions fetching it on the memory card in order to
perform a function and then storing the result of that function back to the memory.
Router. The router is a physical or virtual internetworking device that is designed to receive, analyze,
and forward data packets between computer networks. A router examines a destination IP address of a given
data packet, and it uses the headers and forwarding tables to decide the best way to transfer the packets
(JavaTPoint.com, 2021).
In this study, a router is basically a box that's looking out for data and when it receives, it decodes the
radio signal back into data and then sends the information to the internet using wires called Ethernet
connections.
Software. Software, in its most general sense, is a set of instructions or programs instructing a computer
to do specific tasks. Software is a generic term used to describe computer programs that run on PCs, mobile
phones, tablets, or other smart devices. Software is often used to describe all the functional aspects of a
computer that do not refer to its physical components (hardware). Scripts, applications, programs and a set of
instructions are all terms often used to describe software (Techopedia.com, 2023).
In this study, software is used in controlling the internet connection accessed by the students.
UTP Cable. Unshielded twisted pair (UTP) is a ubiquitous type of copper cabling used in telephone
wiring and local area networks (LANs) (TechTarget.com, 2023). In this study, UTP cable is used for connecting
devices.
WiFi Extender. WiFi Extender is a device that repeats the wireless signal from your router to expand its
coverage. It functions as a bridge, capturing the WiFi from your router and rebroadcasting it to areas where the
WiFi is weak or nonexistent, improving the performance of your home WiFi (Linksys.com, 2023).
In this study, WiFi Extender is used to expand the range of the internet connection inside AMC Campus.
