Teachers establish safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environments according to Quality Standard 2. This involves fostering predictable environments with acceptable student behavior and efficient time use, where each student has positive relationships with caring adults and peers. For example, a mentor teacher had a conversation before a fun run fundraiser to set expectations of doing one's best and being tenacious. The event allowed teachers and students to interact outside the classroom and form deeper relationships.

These are images during the Eyestone Fun Run that is
held every year for a fundraiser. Getting to know your students outside of a classroom environment is important to form deeper relationships and create inclusive and respectful environments. Before my class went outside for the fun run my mentor teacher had a conversation with the students to tell them about the expectations. Some of these expectations were to do their best and be tenacious. I could tell the students were excited that we were going to do the fun run with them. After more than a month of interacting with these students, I can see that they are getting more comfortable with us and I am able to ask more questions about themselves that are unrelated to school. Many want to tell me about their past weekends or want to learn more about me. This fun run was a really cool experience to see the students outside the classroom and see more of their individual personalities.
