My passion to get students excited about learning led me to becoming a teacher. My dedication,
creativity, and responsibility help me to be the teacher I am today.

Within my classroom, I strive to create a community where all students feel welcome and cared for. I do
this by building relationships with my students beginning on the first day of school and by designing a
space for them to form positive relationships with one another through whole-class meetings and
activities such as Community Circle. I believe that developing a classroom environment that is enjoyable,
safe, positive, and comforting to all of my students early in the school year is the key to maintaining a
productive space for students to learn and grow. As a teacher, it is my goal to teach the ‘whole student.’
This includes being aware of and supporting my students’ social, emotional, physical, and intellectual
needs. Building relationships with and among students is the foundation of being able to support the
whole child.

Coinciding with my dedication to creating a strong classroom community, my classroom management

style is built on a firm practice of building relationships with my students and introducing consistent
classroom routines. Getting to know and understand my students’ needs at the beginning of the school
year helps me to be proactive as their teacher. During the first month of school, I place a strong emphasis
on introducing and practicing routines that will help our classroom to run smoothly. We practice routines
and procedures such as morning work, transitions, and material management a lot during the first weeks
of school so that it becomes a habit for the rest of the year.

I consider differentiated instruction an important aspect of my teaching practice. I work to meet the
individual needs of each of my students by getting to know them and understanding how they learn. I
differentiate instruction by guiding collaboration of small groups of students that are working towards a
common goal and by working one-on-one with individual students. I look at each of my students with a
strengths-based approach and know that they are all extremely capable of learning. Another significant
part of my classroom culture is that each of my students see themselves and their classmates as talented
and unique individuals.

I believe that working somewhere with opportunities to collaborate with colleagues is an excellent way to
continue to grow my teaching practice. I would love to work in a school with a friendly atmosphere that
places its students first. I believe that teachers have the power to help students understand their full
potential and that is what I aim to do through my career as an educator.
