O Cardeal D. Affonso foy filho delRey D. Manoel. Sendo de idade de
8. annos, lhe mandou o Papa Leaõ X. o Capello de Diacono Cardeal do
Titulo de Santa Luzia, e juntamente o fez Protonotario Apostolico, e
Bispo Targitano; foy creado em Roma a 27. de Junho de 1517.
Depois teve o Titulo de Cardeal de S. Braz, e ultimamente de S. Joaõ,
e S. Paulo. Foy neste Reyno Bispo de Viseu, Arcebispo de Lisboa,
Abbade de Alcobaça, e perpetuo administrador do Bispado de Evora;
cujo governo teve em seu nome D. Fr. Henrique Frade Franciscano
Bispo de Ceita Primaz de Africa, como se elle intitulava.
Em todas as Prelasias que teve, se houve com grande governo, e usou
de homens eminentes em todas as materias, e em seu serviço. Foy
Principe de grande virtude, e amou muito as letras, e seus professores, de
que elle naõ alcançou pequena parte. Morreo em Lisboa a 21. de Abril de
1540. e està sepultado no Real Mosteiro de Belem, na Capella que
chamaõ do Cardeal, e tem este Epitafio.

O Cardeal D. Henrique.
O Infante D. Henrique foy filho delRey D. Manoel, e da Rainha Dona
Maria, sendo de 14. annos se fez Clerigo, e o primeiro Beneficio que
teve, foy o Priorado de Santa Cruz de Coimbra. Depois no anno de 1522.
lhe deraõ o Arcebispado de Braga, que possuhio com outros Beneficios,
até que por morte de seu irmaõ o Infante D. Afonso foy feito Bispo de
Evora; creando no mesmo anno o Papa Paulo III. esta Igreja em
Arcebispado Metropoli, de Sylves, e Ceita, e depois se lhe acrescentou
Elvas. Foy creado Cardeal do Titulo dos Santos quatro Coroados pelo
Papa Paulo III. em Roma na undecima creaçaõ a 16. de Dezembro de
1545. Foy Legado à Latere neste Reyno, em quanto viveo. Teve do
mesmo modo o Officio de Inquisidor Mòr, e levantou quatro Casas do
Santo Officio; convem a saber, Lisboa, Evora, Coimbra, e Goa.
Reformou as Religioens neste Reyno, e fez muitos Mosteiros, e Casas de
Oraçaõ; entre os quaes foy celebre a Universidade, e o Collegio do
Espirito Santo da Cidade de Evora. Por a infelice morte delRey D.
Sebastiaõ succedeo na Coroa deste Reyno, anno 1578. e morreo em
Almeirim no de 1580 no derradeiro de Janeiro, onde esteve seu corpo
depositado atè o de 1582. em que ElRey D. Filippe de Castella o mandou
levar a Belèm, onde està sepultado, e tem o seguinte Epitafio.
