Fall from Height

HSE Alert #1[2022]

Fall From Height - Objects Falling When Working at Height

A0 Motorway: As part of the construction of the Bucharest Ring Road Project;

As you know, with the progress in site work, manufacturing works have started on almost all bridges and
overpasses.

As a whole project, we have to follow some rules-procedures that we know to prevent any damage to
anyone due to material falling from a height.

When an object falls from height it gathers energy and force. Heavier tools, some up to 3.6 kg, can be
particularly dangerous. Tools that have pointed attributes, like a nail, screwdriver or spud wrench, can
also cause fatal injuries. Even something as light and blunt as a nut fastener has the potential to cause
damage, injury or death if it falls from a great enough height.

A 1.3 kg tool falling from 60 m will travel at a speed of 128 km per hour when it hits the ground. When
this tool finally impacts, hardhats and drop zones are of little consequence

Therefore, to experience these results, please do not be in the areas where the work is done above and
do not use them as a transit route. Especially in some areas, these areas seem to be used as car parks,
which is the most undesirable situation. We kindly ask you to take the necessary actions by giving your
employees the required information and instructions on the subject. The passages in these sections will
be restricted, and where possible, they will be closed completely.

Wind, rain, snow, sea motion, mud, heat and sand can all change work conditions. The effects of these
elements are more pronounced in exposed areas, like working at height, motorway and mines and can
compromise the stability of equipment, tools and structural features.
