CHAPTER 1 OVERVIEW

1.2 Features

 Digital duplex configuration

The protection and control functions are configured by a digital duplex system consisting of 2
independent CPUs for main and fail-safe, thereby realizing a high reliability.

 Easy-to-see LCD screen

Measured values, etc. are indicated in large characters on the back lit Liquid Crystal Display (LCD).
In addition, Japanese guidance messages etc. are adopted to make displays easy to understand
and to simplify operations.

 Widely applicable
This product is applicable to a broad range of systems from extra high voltage system to low
voltage feeder. In addition, various series of transformer units (percentage differential relay) are
available (including those still in developments), so an all-digital protection system can be
configured in substations.

 Labor Saving in maintenance

This relay is equipped with a function for continuous monitoring of the main frame (CPU, memory,
analog/digital input and output blocks, etc.) as a matter of course, as well as an automatic checking
function for the activation of output relay, which ensures safety. In addition, the functions for
monitoring the trip coil disconnection of circuit breaker *1 and monitoring of the contact
opening/closing time *1 are standard-equipped, which contributes to labor saving in maintenance.

 Fault analysis support

In the event of a fault (protection relay action), each value of the system current, voltage, zero
sequence current, zero sequence voltage, active power, frequency, and differential circuit current*2
is automatically held, and a measurement display of fault data is freely selectable. In addition, data
is transmissible to the host system via T-link.

 Configuration of network system via T-link (option)

The F-MPC2000 can be directly coupled with the T-link which is Fuji's field area network. When
linked with a host computer via the network, an intelligent configuration such as an operation and
maintenance support system can readily be realized in addition to the usual operation monitoring
and control.

*1: Except the bus unit and transformer unit.

*2: Synthesis is performed by the internal software.

CHAPTER 1 OVERVIEW
1.3 What Require Particular Attention
Pay particular attention to the following points in the use of this relay.

 Service life of the product

• The service life of the product is designed to be 15 years at an annual mean ambient
temperature of 40°C.(If temperature rises by 10°C, the service life of used parts falls by
approximately half.)
In addition, in order for correct use, it is necessary to carry out daily inspections and prescribed
periodic inspections.

 Avoid the following places as the installation environment.

• Place that is exposed to direct sunlight and place the ambient temperature of which is outside of
the range of -10 to 50C.
• Place the relative humidity of which is outside of the range of 30 to 80% and place where rapid
temperature changes occur and condensation occurs as a result.
• Place with corrosive gases and/or inflammable gases.
(Please make inquiries with us in advance if installation at a place with corrosive gases is
required.)
• Place with excessive dust, conductive powder such as iron powder, oil mist, salt and/or organic
solvent.
• Place where strong electric field and/or strong magnetic field is generated.
• Place where strong vibration and/or impact is directly transmitted to the main unit.

 Positively tighten screws.

• Positively tighten relay main unit mounting screws and terminal screws so as not to cause
drop-off and malfunction.

 Perform mounting and dismounting of terminal block without input.

• At the time of handling of the terminal block
(dismountable type) in the rear of the relay main unit, perform the work in the state where no AC
input or auxiliary energizing source is impressed.
• With the terminal block (AC input) of portion A in particular, there is a possibility where the CT
circuit becomes open when it is dismounted. Therefore, care should be exercised with it.
• Do not wire to unused terminals of each terminal block.

 Mount testing terminal on the panel side.

• No testing terminal, auxiliary energizing source ON/OFF switch or trip lock terminal are provided
for the relay main unit. If they are needed for conduct of maintenance and/or testing, mount
them in the distribution panel.

 Ensure correct output of alarm.

• Since external output (alarm output) is not subject to duplication of the hard circuit and
automatic checking, etc., do not use it as a trip output condition.
• Since an instrument error output (alarm output) will be output when a minor failure occurs, do
not use it as a main circuit trip condition.

-3-
CHAPTER 1 OVERVIEW

 Perform grounding by Class D grounding individually.

• The grounding terminal [FG] of the relay main unit should not be used commonly for grounding
of strong current circuit. It is recommended that it is connected individually to Class D
grounding (grounding resistance up to 100).
• Connection to Class A grounding (grounding resistance up to 10) is permitted at the time of
mounting to a high voltage panel. But connection to the grounding pole should be made using
a dedicated line that is separated from the grounding lines for other equipment.

 Be careful with static electricity

• Static electricity is a powerful enemy for electronic components. Since there is a possibility
where excessive static electricity is generated at a dry place, discharge the static electricity,
which is charged in the human body, etc., by touching a grounded metal or the like before
touching a relay.

 Use radio equipment at a remote place.

• In the case where a radio equipment (including mobile phone) is used at the place where a relay
is installed, the rated output of such a radio equipment should not exceed 5W and a distance of
1 m or longer should be provided from the relay.

 Use lukewarm water or alcohol for cleaning.

• Never use thinner or another organic solvent for removing contaminants from relay's external
peripheries, as it may dissolve or discolor the relay surface.
• It is recommended that either lukewarm water or alcohol available on the market is used for
cleaning.

CHAPTER 4 AUTOMATIC SUPERVISING FUNCTION

4.3 Automatic Checking

Automatic checking is monitoring which is conducted in areas (such as trip output unit), which cannot be
fully monitored by the continuous monitoring. It is conducted with the relay function temporarily
suspended (for a short time).
Automatic checking starts automatically every 24 hours after the application of the auxiliary energizing
source of the relay. However it may be changed to an arbitrary time. Manual start of inspection is also
permitted.

(1) Inspection method

Do's, which are duplexed by main (M)/failsafe (fs), are alternately operated and their responses are
checked as shown in the time chart indicated below.
Inspection time is 250 ms or less.

(3) Retry inspection

In order to avoid excessive fault detection caused by external influences and temporary faults, when an
inspection error occurs, inspections will be carried out once again after a prescribed period of time (60
secs) has passed, to carry out reconfirmation. (Retry function)
• Inspection demands will be invalid until retry inspection is completed.
• When waiting for retry inspection, temporarily release relay function lock.
• When inspection start lock conditions are met during retry inspection start, retry inspection will not be
carried out.
• When inspection errors are detected once again during the retry inspection, error detection processing
will be carried out. In addition, when faults are not detected, inspection will be successfully finished.

(4) Response when errors are detected

When inspection faults are detected once again during retry inspection, error detection processing will
be carried out. Error detection processing is shown as follows.
Error 1. Instrument error output ON (continues until display returns)
processing 2. "ALARM" LED lit up (continues until display returns)
• When reset is carried out during "Automatic checking" of LCD, "error" will become "normal".
Return
When automatic checking is manually activated once again and there are no inspection errors occurring
processing
after approx. 60 secs, this means the causes of the fault were removed.

-27-
CHAPTER 4 AUTOMATIC SUPERVISING FUNCTION

(5) Lock conditions of inspection

In the following cases, inspection start will be locked.
1) During instrument error output, 2) during relay action, 3) during trip output (including the case where
there is a feed back signal), 4) For 5 secs after the inspection was completed

(6) Accident response

Accidents during inspection will be handled when the inspection has been completed. (Accident
response is handled when waiting for retry.)

CHAPTER 5 MOUNTING AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
5.1 Mounting

The unit is mounted on a vertical board after holes are drilled as shown in the attached
drawings/according to the panel hole dimensions. The unit should be installed using the M5 nuts
included with the unit (in a total of 4 places), and should be installed a place with little vibration in a
manner that the upper surface of the unit should be set horizontally.
In addition, there are ventilation holes on the upper surface and lower surface of the relay. If
these holes are plugged, the relay internal temperature rises which may result in an error.
Therefore, do not place anything in a minimum 15 mm vicinity of the circumference of each
ventilation hole.
In the case where multiple relays are installed vertically, allow a space of 40 mm or more at the
front between the top of one relay and the bottom of the next.

5.2 Dismounting

For wiring outside the panel, since the rear surface connectors are composed of divided terminals,
connectors can be disassembled by loosening upper and lower screws while leaving the wiring untouched.
After this, loosen mounting screws described in section 5.1 to dismount the main unit. Dismounting
connectors should be carried out when auxiliary energizing source and AC input are not applied.

5.3 Wiring

Wiring to F-MPC2000 is classified as indicated below in general. Be careful so that contact will
not occur between them.

Classification Name
AC input • control wire VT/CT secondary, ZCT secondary, auxiliary energizing source wire,
input/output signal wire, CB control wire
Communication wire T-link cable, transducer output wire
Grounding wire Grounding wire

(1) AC input • control wire

• ZCT secondary is of weak signals. Therefore, take measures such as twisting wire (or twisting and
pairing treatment) so that it will not be affected by others.
• For input connection of the transformer unit, refer to section 5.4.
• The wiring of auxiliary energizing source should be as short as possible. Do not connect the wiring
parallel to a load which easily becomes a noise generation source.

(2) Communication wire

• Use specified cables such as KPEV-SB (0.5 sq) as T-link cables, and separate them from other wires.
• For transducer output wires, take measures such as twisting wires (or twisting and pairing treatment)
and separate them from the other wires.

(3) Grounding wire

• Lay the grounding wire of each relay individually, and separate it from other wires.

(4) Others
• Suitably arrange the connecting wires on the panel side so that no stress will be applied to terminals.
• The terminal screws are of size M3.5. Tighten them to suitable tightening torque.
(Recommended value: 0.88 N • m)
* When terminal screws are tightened from a diagonal direction,
this will cause breakage, etc. on the terminal screw mounting area of the terminal block, and there is
a risk that terminal screws cannot be completely tightened, so when tightening terminal screws care
should be taken with the driver angle and tightening torque, etc.

-31-
CHAPTER 5 MOUNTING AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

5.4 Working Environment

Since this relay makes use of internal electronic components (such as IC), there is a possibility
that the performance will be affected by the environment of the place of use. Therefore, install the
relay in the environment that satisfies the working conditions indicated below, so that full
performance can be achieved.

■ Variation of the auxiliary energizing source voltage should not exceed the range of -20% to
+30% of the rated voltage.
■ Variation of the frequency should not exceed the range of±5% of the rated frequency.
■ The ambient temperature should not be less than 0˚C and should not be higher than 40˚C.
However, -10˚C to +50˚C is permitted for a few hours per day.
In addition, the storage temperature should be in the range of -20˚C to +60˚C, and no freeze-up
should occur.
■ The relative humidity should not exceed the range of 30% to 80% in the daily average.
■ The altitude should not exceed 2,000 m.
■ It should not be subjected to abnormal vibration, impact, inclination or to a magnetic field.
■ Should not be exposed to noxious smoke or gases, gases containing salt, water drips or vapor,
excessive dust or fine powder, explosive gases or fine powder, wind or rain.
■ Should not be exposed to excessive switching surges, lightning surges, radio waves and
electromagnetic field generated by electrostatic discharge.
Note) If there is a possibility that noise may be generated in the switchboard due to the
auxiliary relay, etc., a surge absorber, etc. should be installed.

CHAPTER 5 MOUNTING AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

5.5 Alternating input for transformer units

In a percentage differential relay, the regular differential current is set to zero by matching the phase and
amount of primary detection current and secondary detection current of the transformer. In the
conventional method, for a transformer with Y/∆-connected winding, CT secondary circuit on primary side
was ∆-connected and CT secondary circuit on secondary side was Y-connected.
In this unit, CT secondary circuit is Y-connected regardless of transformer windings, and the amount of
current and phase are matched by software processing. For wire connection and alternating input for CT
secondary circuits of conventional units and this unit, refer to APPENDIX 3 at the end of the book.
Connecting method and matching (input switching setting and reference current setting) for CT
secondary circuit is shown below:

(1) CT secondary circuit connecting method

CT secondary circuit should be Y-connected to a relay regardless of transformer windings. (See the
following figure.)
Note that, for main CT, no wrong polarity or wire connection is allowed.
The amount of current and phases are matched by software processing.
To update a percentage differential relay with this unit using an existing CT wire connection, make
sure to connect the secondary circuit of the existing CT in a Y.

-33-
CHAPTER 5 MOUNTING AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
(2) Example of setting with this unit

The following is an example of setting when numerical values are:

Primary: 10 MVA (Y), 66 kV, (CT ratio) 150/5A
Secondary: 10 MVA (∆), 3.3 kV, (CT ratio) 3,000/5A

(a) Input switching setting method

To match phases, it is required to set the input switching so that the internal software can perform
processing.
Set the input switching to the following values depending on the connecting method of transformer
windings on primary and secondary side:

① If transformer winding is Y(star)-connected:

For ∆ (delta) r-s (*1), switch the input to “2”, and
For ∆ (delta) r-t (*2), switch the input to “3”.
② If transformer winding is ∆(delta)-connected:
Switch the input to “1” [CT secondary is Y (star)-connected]

*1 ∆ (delta) r-s means that “line current leads by 30 degrees” with ∆ (delta) connection of
transformer.
*2 ∆ (delta) r-t means that “line current lags by 30 degrees” with ∆ (delta) connection of
transformer.

Check against the nameplate of transformer, or vector drawing and connection diagram provided
in the test record before setting the input switching.
For the relationship of input switching setting values to an induced voltage vector drawing and
connection diagram of a transformer, refer to APPENDIXES 1 and 2 at the end of the book.

(b) Reference current setting calculation method

Determine the relay input current value based on the max. capacity. Set this value respectively as
the reference current.

10MVA 5
Primary side :   3  5.05(A)
3  66kV 150

10MVA 5
Secondary side :   2.92(A)
3  3.3kV 3000

Note: If the transformer is of Y windings, multiply by √3 as the expression shown on the above to calculate the
reference current setting so that the software performs Y-∆ conversion (processing such as r-s).

(c) Unit setting

For the example above, set as shown below with this unit:
Primary reference current: 5.1 (A) / Primary input: 2 or 3
Secondary reference current: 2.9 (A) / Secondary input: 1

If the input current obtained by the above calculation is below the lower limit of reference current
setting (2.9A) or exceeds the upper limit of reference current setting (8.7A), reconsider either the
main CT ratio or reference current setting so that the input current stays within the upper/lower limits
by sliding the reference current setting with certain ratio.

selection SW to "Normal", new set values will be used. During changes of setting, operations are
carried out using current set values.
■ If setting is made in such a manner that the relation of INST current ≧ DT current ≧ OC current
is not satisfied, a "relative value error" occurs upon return to the setting change menu. (Message
"Relative error (INST ≧ DT ≧ OC)" is displayed on the screen.)
■ When changes are carried out other than in the setting change menu, or when a relative value error
occurs in the setting change menu, it will return to the normal menu when the menu selection SW is
set to "Normal ". However the setting will not be changed and the current setting value will be used.
At this time, the message "* Setting change failed" will be displayed at the bottom of the normal
menu screen.
■ A T-link address may be set when the transmission unit (optional) is mounted.
■ When setting an address of T-link transmission, perform the setup when no transmission is in
progress. If a T-link address is changed during transmission, an alarm occurs on the transmission
master side. This is because the address before re-setup has disappeared.

CHAPTER 7 MAINTENANCE AND INSPECTION

7.1 Inspection Item

This relay is a digital device and provides an automatic monitoring function. Therefore, almost no
maintenance is required. However, it is recommended that inspection of the items described below is also
conducted to discover problems in areas outside of the scope of the automatic monitoring function and also
to prevent problems before they occur. A list of portions and functions which can be maintained by the
inspections indicated below is shown in Table 7.1.

(1) Routine patrol inspection

The principal purpose is to check the external appearance, structure, etc. around relays and
distribution panel. To be conducted once every few months.
(2) Periodic inspection
The principal purpose is to check the protective relay functions, characteristics, etc. To be conducted
once every few years. In addition, periodic inspections should be conducted with the relay protective
functions suspended (execution of trip lock).
Also, additional inspections should be conducted in the necessary scope, if any of the circumstances
indicated below arise.

(1) When a risk of errors occurring during routine patrol inspections or periodic inspections is
recognized.
(2) When an error occurs in the automatic monitoring (continuous monitoring, automatic inspection)
functions.
(3) When relay setting values and/or sequence circuits, etc. were changed.

7.2 Service Parts

If this relay used more than 10 years, the visibility of displayed characters in the LCD screen (liquid
crystal display), which is used in this relay, will deteriorate due to the fade-out of display color and the
decrease of luminance.
Even when the visibility of the LCD screen is lowered, there is no effect on the functions of protection,
control, monitoring, measurement, and transmission. However, when the deterioration of the LCD screen
progresses, it becomes difficult to write and read the setting values and read the measured values.
Therefore, when the LCD screen becomes hard to read, it is necessary to replace the relay main unit or
replace and repair the LCD screen. The LCD screens will be replaced and repaired after they are brought
to our factory.

-74-
CHAPTER 8 TESTING

8.1 Standard Testing Conditions

To conduct testing, as far as possible set the surrounding conditions indicated below. There is a possibility
that correct results of measurement cannot be obtained in the testing under conditions which are largely
different from the conditions indicated below.

(1) Ambient temperature 20˚C ±10˚C

(2) Relative humidity 90% or less
(3) Frequency Rated frequency ±1% Harmonic only effective value
Distortion factor   100(%)
(4) AC input Distortion factor 2% or less Fundamenta l effective value
(5) Auxiliary energizing source Rated voltage ±10%

8.2 Precautions in Testing

(1) Distortion of the waveform adversely affects the measuring instruments used to measure the
operation values, etc. Therefore, a power supply unit which has a small capacity, the waveform of
which largely varies by the load, is not suitable as a power supply unit for testing.
(2) If input current, input voltage or auxiliary energizing source voltage that exceeds the continuous
allowable value is applied for a long time, heat-up and burning of circuit components may result, so
due attention should be paid.
The maximum application current value and voltage value of each input circuit at the time of testing
as well as the allowable continuous conduction time of the phase current circuit are shown below.

Maximum application current value and voltage value at the

time of testing
Input circuit Maximum application Allowable continuous conduction time of the
current value and voltage phase current circuit

Zero sequence voltage V0 150 V
Phase current Ir, s, t 100 A 5 A to 10 A 400 seconds
10 A to 20 A 100 seconds
20 A to 40 A 25 seconds

Zero sequence current I0 F103: 2 A 80 A to 100A 4 seconds
(for non-grounding F105: 2 A
system)

When carrying out a test again after applying a current rated 5 A or higher, perform the test after the
elapse of one minute or longer with a current of 0 A.

(3) Apply rated auxiliary energizing source voltage to heat in preparation for about 30 minutes before
starting a test.
(4) Measuring the operation time should be carried out at the output observation terminals which are
located inside the front door of the unit.

* For output observation terminals, the "Tokai Communication Industry Co., Ltd, type: I-100RFJ" is
used.
In addition, since plugs which plug into to the terminals are not included, separately prepare the
appropriate plugs (shown below).

7 (Unused region)

(1) Regular transmission data

Relay action signal (data transmitted to the host system from MPC regularly such as alarm output.)
(bit data)

(2) Transmission data by group

Data such as setting values and measured values which are transmitted to the host system from
MPC with contents replaced according to the group specification from the host system. (BCD data)
When the group specification data of required groups is transmitted by the host system, the MPC
transmits the specified transmission data by group together with the group notice data at the next
transmission timing.

(3) Control data (measurement, etc.)

Data for the host system to control processing such as MPC measured data clearing processing.
Fix the data at 00h normally.

(4) Control data (output)

Data for the host system to control CB opening/closing, DS, etc. via MPC. Fix the data at 00h
normally.

If the host system performs controls externally via MPC, MPC output responds in tandem with the
above control data.
(Output is ON while valid data is being received.)
However, MPC has a function to extend a signal for 1 s, which enables control with the minimum 2
samplings data sending.

Description of connection symbols

(1) For connection symbols, a high voltage w inding (the primary side of transformer) is show n in a capital letter.
(2) For connection symbols, a low voltage w inding (the secondary side of transformer) is show n in a small letter.
(3) A numeral show n is called number of phase shift hours.
・ For example, it is 1 if a high voltage w inding is star(star)-connected and a low voltage w inding is triangle(delta)-connected,
and the phase of the latter lags by 30 relative to the former. The connection symbol is Yd1.
・ For example, it is 0 if a high voltage w inding is triangle(delta)-connected and a low voltage w inding is triangle(delta)-connected,
and the phase of the latter is the same as that of the former. The connection symbol is Dd0.

1. In conventional type connection, the magnitudes of the phase and current are matched by changing the wire
connection on the secondary side of CT by winding (wire connection) of transformer and then are input to the relay.
Therefore, with regard to the relay inputs ① and ②, the phases are the same and the magnitudes of current are matched.
2. In digital type connection, because the secondary side of CT is Y-connected, the phase of relay input [②] is lagged by 30
relative to that of [①]. Therefore, in order to make the phase of relay input [①] the same phase as that of [②], the primary
side input switching is to be set to “3” and the secondary side input switching to “1”.
With regard to the magnitude of current, because the secondary current of CT of the primary of transformer is 1/√3 of
the conventional type since the current is supplied via Y connection, the current multiplied by √3 is to be the reference current.

[F103] Combination characteristic of non-grounding system ground fault

direction relay and ZCT
(A general guild for operating current values and operation phase angles)
It is difficult to stipulate the combination characteristic of ground fault direction relay for digital
non-grounding system and ZCT because it is affected by the size of secondary burden and power factor or
zero sequence currency size, etc. Therefore, because there is no provision about total errors combined
with ZCT, a general guild for ZCT primary current operation values and operation phase angles is provided
below.

2. ZCT primary current operation value

ZCT specification: JEC-1201 Class L; Rated zero sequence current, primary 200mA / secondary
1.5mA; Rated excitation impedance Zo>10Ω
Rated secondary burden Zb=10Ω (lagging current Pf=0.5)

In the provision of JEC-1201 Class L, allowable error of ZCT zero sequence secondary current is 1mA
or more and 2mA or less for rated zero sequence primary current of 200mA (1.5mA 3±3.33% or
equivalent).

Given the fact that the number of turns of ZCT secondary is generally 50 to 80, let the number of
turns be 80 here; then zero sequence secondary current 3io is expressed in the following expression
where the number of turns of primary is N1 and that of secondary N2.
N1 1
3io = 3Io× = 200mA× = 2.5mA
N2 80
Rated secondary current ib flowing in relay is obtained by the expression 1 as follows:

Xm 10 10
ib=3io× =2.5mA× =2.5mA× =2.36mA
Rb²+Xm² 3.5²+10² 10.595

-137-
APPENDIX 3

Let Ir be current operation setting value, then ZCT primary current is expressed as follows:
Ir 3Io Ir
= ∴ 3io= x 200 ≒ 85 x Ir [mA] Expression 2
2.36mA 200mA 2.36

If ZCT primary current operation value is calculated under the following condition, the value is
obtained as shown below:
・Accuracy of ZCT (Class L) is secondary current 1mA or more and 2mA or less (1.5mA ± 33.33%)
relative to primary current 200mA.
・Operation value accuracy of relay (F-MPC2000) is ±10% of the current operation setting value.

1) If ZCT primary current operation value is greater (+ side),

If secondary current limit is 1mA (-33.33%) when the reference value is 1.5mA/200mA, the
current operation value is 1.5mA/1mA = 1.5 times, i.e., it is 1.5 times the reference value 1.5mA;
therefore, ZCT primary current value is greater.
Consequently, the upper limit converted to ZCT primary current operation value is expressed as
follows if assigned in the expression 2:
+ side: Rated zero sequence primary current = 85 x Ir x 1.5 times x 1.1 (positive
accuracy of relay) ≒ 140 x Ir [mA]
(Ir: Relay current operation setting value)

2) If ZCT primary current operation value is smaller (- side)

If secondary current limit is 1.5mA (+33.33%) when the reference value is 1.5mA/200mA, current
operation value is 1.5mA/2mA = 0.75 times, i.e., it is 0.75 times the reference value 1.5mA;
therefore, ZCT primary current value is smaller.
Consequently, the lower limit converted to ZCT primary current operation value is expressed as
follows if assigned in the expression 2:
- side: Rated zero sequence primary current = 85 x Ir x 0.75 times x 0.9 (negative
accuracy of relay) ≒ 57 x Ir [mA]
(Ir: Relay current operation setting value)

3 Operation phase angle of phase characteristic

As for the highest sensitivity phase angle θ , as is evident from the vector drawing of Fig. 1, ZCT
secondary current ib leads by θ’ from the primary current 3io. Therefore, the maximum sensitivity
phase angle θ’ with ZCT combined lags by θ’ from the maximum sensitivity phase angle of phase
characteristic for relay single body. (Refer to Fig. 2.)
Rb
 '=tan 1 []
Xm
3.5
As Rb = 3.5 Ω and Xm=10 Ω, θ'= tan 1 ≒19 (Lag: 3io relative to ib shown in Fig. 1),
10
Considering the maximum sensitivity phase angle of relay single body (F-MPC2000) ±5° and lagged phase angle
(θ’≒19°), the operation phase angle combined with ZCT is expressed as follows:
Current lead side phase angle: (θ+80°) ±5°-19°= (θ+80°) ±24°
Current lag side phase angle: (θ+280°) ±5°-19°= (θ+280°) ±24°
For accuracy, 5°+19°=24° which is the maximum value is adopted. (Note) θ: Maximum sensitivity phase angle of
relay single body
(Supplementary) Although the operation phase angle combining relay and ZCT is lagged phase angle relative to the
reference value of relay, based on the absolute value of accuracy itself as (accuracy of relay single body: 5°) + (ZCT
combined lagged phase angle: 19°), “5°+19°=24°”is derived, with which the lead side reference value: (θ+80°) ±24°
is used as ZCT primary operation phase angle. The same applies to lag side reference value.
Therefore, 24°for the current lead side of reference value and 24° for the current lag side of reference value are used.

APPENDIX 3

4. A general guild for ZCT primary current operating values and operation phase angles)
The guide values for characteristic with ZCT combined are as shown below: Apply ZCT which is in
accordance with JEC-1201.

4-1) ZCT primary current operation allowable error range

For any current operation setting value, the allowable error range of ZCT primary current operation
at the maximum setting phase angle θ is as follows:

(57 to 140) x Current operation setting value [mA]

4-2) Operation phase angle

For any current operation setting value, the input current is 1000% of ZCT primary current
operation value, and the input voltage (Vo) is 30% of rating.
ZCT primary current operation phase angle at the maximum setting phase angle θ is as follows:
Refer to Fig. 3 a).

Current lead phase angle: (θ+80°) ±24°= (140°) ±24°θ

Current lag phase angle: (θ+280°) ±24°= (340°) ±24°
Note: Current lead 340° = Current lag 20°
Note) θ for F-MPC2000: the maximum sensitivity phase angle is fixed at current lead 60°.

When combined with ZCT, the primary current of the ZCT (approx. 80 times the 3io) is measured
relative to the reference voltage Vo; therefore, it lags by θ’ from the maximum sensitivity phase angle
of relay single body. The relationship of θ to θ’ is as shown in Fig. 2.

If the maximum sensitivity phase angle is 60°, the relationship of ZCT primary current measured
phase angle to the reference phase angle of relay is as shown in Fig. 3 a).
As for the phase characteristic with ZCT combined, ZCT primary current operation phase angle φ1
and φ2 lag by α1 and α2 from the reference phase angle of relay.

In the provision of JEC-1201 class L, allowable error of ZCT zero sequence secondary current is 1mA

・Operation value accuracy of relay (F-MPC2000) is ±10% of the current operation setting value.

1) If ZCT primary current operation value is greater (+ side),

If secondary current limit is 1mA (-33.33%) when the reference value is 1.5mA/200mA, current
operation value is 1.5mA/1mA = 1.5 times, i.e., it is 1.5 times the reference value 1.5mA; therefore,
ZCT primary current value is greater.
Consequently, the upper limit converted to ZCT primary current operation value is expressed as
follows if assigned in the expression 2:
+ side: Rated zero sequence primary current = 85 x Ir x 1.5 times x 1.1 (positive accuracy
of relay) ≒ 140 x Ir [mA]
(Ir: Relay current operation setting value)

2) If ZCT primary current operation value is smaller (- side)

If secondary current limit is 1.5mA (+33.33%) where the reference value is 1.5mA/200mA, current
operation value is 1.5mA/2mA = 0.75 times, i.e., it is 0.75 times the reference value 1.5mA; therefore,
ZCT primary current value is smaller.

Rb
 '= tan 1 []
Xm
0.27
As Rb = 0.27 Ω and Xm=10 Ω, θ'= tan 1 ≒1.55 (Lag: 3io relative to ib shown in Fig. 1)
10

Considering the maximum sensitivity phase angle of relay single body (F-MPC2000) ±5° and lagged
phase angle (θ’≒1.55°), the operation phase angle combined with ZCT is expressed as follows:
Current lead side phase angle: (θ+80°) ±5°-1.55°= (θ+80°) ±6.55°
Current lag side phase angle: (θ+280°) ±5°-1.55°= (θ+280°) ±6.55°
For accuracy, 5°+1.55°=6.55° which is the maximum value is adopted. (Note) θ: Maximum
sensitivity phase angle of relay single body
(Supplementary) Although the operation phase angle combining relay and ZCT is lagged phase
angle relative to the reference value of relay, based on the absolute value of
accuracy itself as (accuracy of relay single body: 5°) + (ZCT combined lagged
phase angle: 1.55°), “ 5°+1.55°=6.55°”is derived, with which the lead side
reference value: (θ+80°) ±6.55° is used as ZCT primary current operation phase
angle. The same applies to lag side reference value.
Therefore, 6.55° relative to the current lead side of reference value and 6.55°
relative to the current lag side of reference value are used.

For any current operation setting value, the input current is 1000% of ZCT primary current operation
value, the input voltage (Vo) is 30% of rating, the maximum sensitivity phase angle is θ, and ZCT
primary current operation phase angle is as follows: Refer to Fig. 3 a).

Current lead side: (θ+80°) ±6.55°= (140°) ±6.55°

Current lag side: (θ+280°) ±6.55°= (340°) ±6.55° Note: Current lead 340° = Current lag 20°
Note) θ for F-MPC2000: the maximum sensitivity phase angle is fixed at current lead 60°.

When combined with ZCT, the primary current of the ZCT (approx. 80 times the 3io) is measured
relative to the reference voltage Vo; consequently it lags by θ’ from the maximum sensitivity phase
angle of relay single body. The relationship of θ to θ’ is as shown in Fig. 2.

If the maximum sensitivity phase angle is 60°, the relationship of ZCT primary current operation phase
angle to the reference phase angle of relay is as shown in Fig. 3 a).
As for the phase characteristic with ZCT combined, ZCT primary current operation phase angle φ1
and φ2 lag by α1 and α2 from the reference phase angle of relay.
