8. Mixture may charge electrostatically: always use earthing leads when transferring from one
container to another.
9. The vapour is heavier than air, spreads along the ground and distant ignition is possible.
Routes of exposure Risks to Health from Identified Hazards

Skin contact
Contaminated clothing should be soaked with water, removed and laundered before
reuse.
Storage, handling, spillage and disposal
Storage;
Store product externally.
Drums and small containers should be stored in well-ventilated areas, flameproof cabinets or stores.
Keep container tightly closed in a dry well ventilated place away from direct sunlight and other sources of
heat and ignition.
Keep in a bunded area with a sealed floor to provide containment against spillage.
Stack drums to a height not exceeding three metres without the use of racking.
Locate tanks away from heat and other sources of ignition.
Vapours are heavier than air and may spread along floors.
Store in cool, well ventilated area. Storage temperature: > 5°C and < 30 °C
Avoid strong oxidising agents
Handling:
Avoid direct contact with the substance.
Avoid naked flames
Do not handle in a confined space.
Spillage:
Remove all possible sources of ignition in the surrounding area
Do not breathe fumes or vapour
Do not operate electrical equipment unless intrinsically safe.
Contain and collect spillage with non-combustible, absorbent material e.g. sand, earth, vermiculite or
diatomaceous earth and place in container for disposal as hazardous waste.
Preferably clean with a detergent. Avoid using solvents.
Contaminated material should be considered as hazardous and disposed of as hazardous waste.
Do not allow into drains or water courses or dispose of where ground or surface waters may be affected.
Disposal:
Wastes,
Fire including
precautions andemptied
action containers are controlled wastes and should be disposed of in accordance
In combustion emits toxic fumes, evacuate the area.
Fire teams to wear full breathing apparatus.
Recommended extinguish media: Foam, fine water spray and dry chemical powder. Carbon dioxide,
sand or earth may be used on small fires only. DO NOT use water jet.

Maintenance of plant, equipment or PPE
Electrostatic charges may be generated during pumping. Ensure electrical continuity by bonding all
equipment.
Wait 2 minutes after tank filling (for tanks such as those on road tanker vehicles) before opening hatches
or manholes.
Wait 30 minutes after tank filling (for large storage tanks) before opening hatches or manholes.
Contamination resulting from product transfer may give rise to light hydrocarbon vapour in the
headspace of tanks that have previously contained gasoline. This vapour may explode if there is a source
of ignition.

Further information and instruction

Vapours may form explosive mixtures with air. Vapour in the headspace of tanks and containers may
ignite and explode at temperatures exceeding auto-ignition temperature where vapour concentrations
are within the flammability range. Do not cut, weld or grind used containers unless they have been
cleaned thoroughly internally.
Electrical equipment should be protected from flammable atmospheres.
Synthetic materials such as plastics and fibreglass may be unsuitable for containers or container linings
depending on the material specification and intended use.
