IDS mandated data collection

IDS – a singular interception of drug trafficking taking place within the national territory at a specific
place and point in time. It is data for a single event rather than data at the aggregate level as is the case of the
ARQ module on seizures and trafficking (A07). IDS represents seizure data at the individual level on a number
of fields including date, drug quantity, trafficking route and trafficker data.

Aggregate (ARQ) vs single event (IDS) data

IDS - A seizure of 10 kg of cocaine taking place in country X at a specific place

(airport, residence, etc.) at a certain point in time on a specific day-each Mandate:
individual drug seizure event
International Drug Conventions
ARQ - A total of 800 kg of cocaine seized in country X during 2022- aggregation of 1961, 1971, 1988
several individual drug seizure events-a cumulative figure-includes IDS event

The Power of Data
Assist international community by providing high-quality, essential evidence to
inform policy-making and support operational action

• Different incidents make it more valuable to draw connections and links

• More advantageous for law enforcement and policy makers

• Clandestine drug laboratories/production sites
• Arrests (for drug trafficking or possibly other crimes)

• Extend to commodities of concern or regions of interest (Wildlife trafficking,

firearms trafficking, tobacco, falsified medical products)
