Clean-Up The Spills Immediately

Spillage Of Oil, Transmission Or Radiator Fluid And Other Liquid Is Quite Common In
Automotive Repair Shops. It Puts You At Significant Risk Of Slipping On The Floor,
Therefore, To Protect Yourself Or Your Customers From Falling, The Spills Must Be
Cleaned Up Immediately Which Eliminates The Risk Of Slipping And Or Injury.

Sweep The Floors Regularly

Repair Shops Roller Doors Are Always Open Resulting In Dust Particles Coming In From
Every Direction. Combine The Dust And Tiny Particles Or Chemical Residues From
Repaired Or Damaged Cars, These Substances Are Incredibly Harmful To The People Who
Inhale Them. Therefore Sweeping And Cleaning The Floors Must Be Rule 1 In The Auto
Repair Safety Rules To Keep The Workplace Dust And Allergen-Free.

SAFETY TIPS FOR AUTO TECHNICIANS

Wear Sturdy Work Boots

All Mechanics Are Instructed To Wear The Right Size Work Boot Which Is Strong And
Sturdy With A Steel Cap Toe. The Work Boots Protect Their Feet In The Event Of Tools Or
Parts Falling Down Which Could Cause Injury To Their Feet. The Work Boots Must Have
Non-Slip Soles To Reduce The Risk Of Sliding, Falling Or Slipping On The Greasy Surface
On The Workshop Floor.

Wearing Proper Work Gloves

Auto Repair Mechanics Have To Handle Engines And Other Automotive Parts That Can Be
Extremely Hot And Cause Severe Burns Or Are Extremely Dirty. Thus, Mechanics Are
Encouraged To Wear Proper Work Gloves As Protection Before Handling Hot And / Or
Dirty Parts.

Appropriate Eye Wear

Being A Mechanic, At Times You Are Up And Close To Even The Most Minor Part That
Can Harm You By Simply Blowing In Your Eye. Protecting Your Eyes While Doing Any
Repair Or Service Work Is Recommended. The Use Of Protective Eyewear Is A Small Price
To Prevent Eye Injury.

Wearing Workshop Apparel

Every Mechanic Is Advised To Wear Tough But Lightweight Apparel While Performing
Their Duties In The Workshop. Wearing Loose Clothing Or Any Other Inappropriate Attire
Puts You At Risk Of Ripping The Clothes, Spilling Or Getting The Shirt Caught Between
Parts Or Sections Of The Vehicle Which Could Result In Injury To You. Shop Owners Must
Provide Their Mechanics With Customized Apparel To Suit The Working Conditions.

Dispose Of The Waste Correctly

Not Only Are Mechanics Expected To Learn The Safety Rules Within The Automotive
Shop But It’s Advisable All Staff Are Part Of The Learning Process As They Share The
Responsibility In Making The Right Decision To Handle Business Owners Must Lay
Appropriate Guidelines Even Outside The Workshop For Everyone To Follow.
Proper Electrical Safety

It Is Essential To Cut Off The Power Before Working On The Electrical Components Of
A Vehicle To Avoid Accidental Electric Shock. Again You Must Have A Guide To Safety

Week 2: Basic Information About Toyota Car & Handling Of

Tools And Machines
1. Vehicle Lift
Every Mechanic Needs To Get Under The Vehicles To Perform Essential Inspections And
Diagnostics. Your Shop Will Need Lifts To Raise The Vehicle To The Height Needed For
These Services. Match Your Needs To The Various Models And Capacities Of Lift Models.
There Are Many Characteristics That You Need To Consider. Including Safety Features, 2-
Post Vs. 4-Post Construction, Accessories, And Power Requirements.

2. Air Compressor

You Will Need A Reliable Air Compressor To Operate Many Tools Within Your Shop,
Including Pneumatic Hand Tools And Some Auto Lifts. Get The Highest Capacity You Can
Afford, To Be Sure You Have The Power You Need For Powering The Needs Of Your Shop
– A Good Example Would Be A 60 Or 120-Gallon Compressor.

3. Jack, Jack Stands, And Pole Jacks

Many Auto Repairs Will Require Raising Vehicles At Least Temporarily. So A Strong
Floor Jack Will Be Utilized On A Regular Basis. Get A High-Quality, High-Capacity Jack,
And Strong Jack Stands To Support The Vehicle Once They're Elevated. Pole Jacks Will
Also Be Useful To Support Axles Or Other Components Of Raised Vehicles.
4. Oil Drain And Oil Caddy: Services Like Changing Oil And Transmission Fluid Will

Services Expand And You’re Working With Vehicles On Lifts. A Standing Oil Caddy That
Can Reach The Raised Vehicle Will Make The Job Easier And Quicker .

5. Battery Charger And Jumper

We Know This Better Than We Do But Many Jobs Will Pertain To Dead Batteries Or
Charging Problems. Your Shop Will Need A Good Battery Charger And Jumper To Handle
These Services. You Don't Need To Break The Bank But Considering That You'll Get A Lot
Of These Cases, It's Pivotal To Showcase Your Best Equipment To Your Customers.

6. Engine Hoist
Engine Hoists Are Fundamental For Any Garage Or Shop. Whether It's Rebuilding,
Repairing Or Replacement, An Engine Hoist Will Wear Many Hats In Your Shop. Be Sure
To Buy One That Has The Capacity To Handle The Largest Engine You Expect To Service.
7. Brake Lathe
Sure, When You’re Doing Brake Jobs, You Can Take Rotors Or Drums To Another Service
For Resurfacing. But That’s Expensive And Cuts Into Your Time And Profits. Buying Your
Own Brake Lathe Will Make Brake Services More Efficient And Profitable. Which Means
They'll Quickly Pay For Themselves. Be Sure To Purchase A Name Brand Lathe, To Ensure
Availability Of Replacement Parts When Needed.

9. Air Conditioning Machine

If You’re Going To Offer Air Conditioning Service (Which We Recommend You Do). Get
An Air Condition Machine That Will Ease Recovering, Recycling, And Recharging Vehicle
A/C Systems. This Will Make Flushing And Diagnosing A/C Systems Faster And More
Reliable.
10. Wheel Balance
Wheel Balancing Is The Process Of Balancing The Weight Of A Tire And Wheel Assembly
So That It Travels Evenly At High Speeds. Balancing Requires Putting A Mounted Wheel
And Tire On A Balancer, Which Centers The Wheel And Spins It To Determine Where The
Weights Should Go. Every Time A Wheel Is First Mounted Onto A Vehicle With A New
Tire, It Has To Be Balanced.

11. Pneumatic Gun

The Pneumatic Gun Is A Lightweight Gun With A Safety Valve To Expel The Air As Soon
As The Trigger Is Released. It Is Highly Recommended For Bonding, Sealing And Beading
Applications On Bodywork, As Well As Pu Sealants And Glass Adhesives.
12. Pressure Gauge

Pressure Gauges Are Used To Monitor And Control Pressure – Which Is Often A Necessity
In Industrial Processing. Without Pressure Gauges, Industrial Processing Systems Would Be
Both Unpredictable And Unreliable.

13. Hydrometer

The State Of Charge Of A Lead-Acid Battery Can Be Estimated From The Density Of The
Sulfuric Acid Solution Used As Electrolyte. A Hydrometer Calibrated To Read Specific
Gravity Relative To Water At 60 Degrees Fahrenheit Is A Standard Tool For Servicing
Automobile Batteries.
14. Spanner Set, Wrench Set & Other Tool

Week 3 & 4 : Training Of Maintenance Of Automobiles In

Workshop
OIL AND COOLANT LEVELS

Every Month, Or Every Few Petrol Fill-Ups And Especially Before Any Long Road Trips,
It’s A Good Idea To Get Under The Hood Of Your Car And Inspect Both The Oil And
Coolant Levels While The Engine Is Cool. Low Levels Of Either Can Lead To Engine
Problems If Left Unchecked. Refer To Your Owner’s Manual To Locate Both On Your
Specific Vehicle.

Air Filter

Engine’s Air Filter Is What Regulates The Air That Flows Into Your Engine And Helps
Keep Out Debris And Particulate. By Making Certain That Your Air Filter Is Flowing
Properly, You Can Improve Your Fuel Efficiency, Decrease Your Emissions, And Help
Ensure The Life Of Your Engine. This Can Be Done Easily At Home, So Check Your
Owner’s Manual For Instructions And How Often It Needs To Be Changed.

Tyre Pressure And Tread Depth

Since Well-Maintained Tyres Are Integral To A Safe, Fuel-Efficient Ride, Make It A Habit
To Visually Inspect Your Tyres Often. Check The Pressure In Your Tyres Every Month,
And Before Long Trips Or Carrying Extra Load. Don’t Forget The Spare. A Tyre Pressure
Gauge Will Be Needed To Check Your Tyre Pressure. Your Owner’s Manual Will Tell You
How Much Air Pressure Your Tyre Needs. You Can Check Your Tread Depth Using A
Gauge.

Headlights, Turn Signals, Brake, And Parking Lights

It’s Important That The Lights On Your Vehicle Are Properly Functioning, But Oftentimes
It Can Be Easy Item To Overlook. Once A Month, Turn On Your Headlights When You’re
Parked In Front Of A Flat Surface And Check That Both Headlights Are Working Properly
And Well-Positioned. Walk Around Your Car And Visually Inspect Both Turn Signals And
Your Parking Lights. Have A Friend Stand Behind The Car While You Engage The Brakes
To Be Certain That Your Brake Lights Are Functional.

Oil & Filter

The Motor Oil In Your Vehicle’s Engine Serves A Whole Slew Of May Need To Change
Both The Oil & Oil Filter As Much As Every 6 Months Or 10,000 Kilometres. Many Newer
Vehicles’ Owners’ Manuals Will Recommend Changing Your Oil Less Frequently – Often
In-Between 8,000 And 16,000 Kilometres. Check Your Vehicle Owner’s Manual And
Consult With A Professional To Be Certain What Is Appropriate For Your Vehicle.
SPARK PLUGS

The Spark Plugs In Your Engine Ignite The Gas And Air Mixture That Ultimately Powers
Your Vehicle. If Your Spark Plugs Aren’t Functioning Properly, Your Engine Will Lose
Power And Won’t Run At Optimal Capacity. Have A Professional Check And Replace Any
Faulty Spark Plugs Depending On Vehicle Manufacturer’s Recommendations Or When You
Feel A Decrease In Your Engine’s Power.

Battery Performance Check

Your Car Battery Is One Of The Most Important Components For Your Vehicle To Run. A
Car Battery Supplies Large Amounts Of Electrical Current For The Starter, Engine And
Other Electronic Accessories In The Vehicle. Extreme Temperatures Affect The
Performance Of The Battery So Regular Battery Testing Will Ensure That Battery Will
Perform When You Need It To.
Coolant Fluid Exchange

The Radiator In Your Car Is A Vital Component That Helps Keep Your Engine Cool And
Functioning Properly. Having Your Coolant System Flushed Regularly Will Help Get Rid
Of Contaminants That Can Build Up Inside As Well As Ensure That Your Radiator Is Filled
To A Proper Level. Check Your Vehicle Manufacturer’s Recommendation To Find Out
How Often Your Coolant Should Be Changed.

Inspect Shocks And Struts

The Shock Absorbers And Struts On Your Car Function To Control The Impact And
Rebound As Your Vehicle Passes Over Bumps In The Road And Are An Essential Part Of
Your Auto’s Steering System. They Should Be Inspected By A Professional Every 80,000
Kilometres Or Bring Your Car In To The Shop If You Notice A Decrease In Smoothness Or
Loss Of Control When Driving.
Transmission Fluid check

Much Like The Oil In Your Engine, Transmission Fluid Is A Lubricant That Helps Keep All
Of The Moving Parts Inside Of Your Transmission Functioning Properly. Whether You’re
Driving An Automatic Or Manual Transmission Vehicle, It Is Essential That You Have
Your Transmission Fluid Checked And Changed When Needed To Avoid Costly
Transmission Damage Or Replacement. Follow The Vehicle Manufacturer’s
Recommendations.

Check And Replace Windshield Wipers

Wipers Aren't Working Like They Used To, Don't Let The Problem Linger. Damaged Or
Worn-Out Blades Can Reduce Visibility During A Heavy Rain Or A Snowstorm. Knowing
How To Inspect Your Wiper Blades Regularly And Replace Them When Necessary Is One
Way To Help Keep Your Car Safe.
Check The Cabin Air Filter

Cabin Air Filters Are Designed To Keep Your Car’s Air Free Of Pollen, Dust And Other
Pollutants. Over Time, Filters Can Get Clogged And Become Less
Effective. Autozone Recommends That Most Cars’ Air Filters Should Be Checked Every
15,000 To 30,000 Miles. You Can Change It Sooner If You Notice The Cabin Air Filter Is
Visually Dirty, If You Hear A Whistling From Your Air Ducts Or If There’s A Musty Odor
When You Turn On Heating Or Cooling. Referencing Your Car’s Specific Owner's Manual
Should Provide You With A More Precise Service Schedule.

Inspect The Brakes

Your Car's Brakes Require Regular Inspection. While Driving, Listen For Any Brake Noise
And Pay Attention To Shuddering Or Vibrations From The Brake Pedal. If Any Of These
Warning Signs Show, You Should Visit A Mechanic Or Repair Shop As Soon As Possible.
Check The Brake Fluid, Do An Inspection Of The Undercarriage And Check Your Car’s
Braking Components (Brake Pads, Rotors And Calipers),
Check Belts And Hoses

Keeping Your Car's Belts And Hoses In Good Shape Can Help Keep It Running And
Prevent A Breakdown On The Road. For Instance, Your Serpentine Belt Helps Power
Several Vital Parts Of Your Car Like The Alternator, Power Steering Pump, Air
Conditioning And Sometimes The Water Pump. A Broken Serpentine Belt Is Dangerous
While Driving And Could Cause Serious Damage To Your Engine.

Power Steering Fluid Check

Power steering fluid is a crucial component of your car's power steering system, helping to
make turning the wheel easier and more responsive. Over time, the fluid level can drop,
requiring you to top it up to ensure your car runs smoothly. If you do need to top up the
fluid, With the correct power steering fluid slowly add the power steering fluid to the
reservoir, being careful not to overfill. Use a funnel or a plastic bottle with a spout to make
pouring the fluid easier.
Check Brake Fluid Level

If Brake Fluid Level Is Below The ‘Low’ Marker, You Should Add Fluid To Top It Up. If
You Check The Level Soon After And It Is Still Low, You May Have A Leak In The Brake
System. If The Level Is Higher Than The Maximum Marker, The Fluid May Be Absorbing
Water From A Weak Point In The Braking System. If You Continue To Drive With Water
In Your Brake System, The Water May Boil Off And Your Brake Function Will Suffer. If
Your Level Is Above The Maximum, Visit A Workshop To Have Your Brake Fluid
Replaced.
Wheel Balancing
When We Talk About Wheel Balancing, We Are Actually Talking About The Tyre
And Rim Unit. A Wheel Can Be Out Of Balance When One Area Of The Tyre Or Rim Is
Heavier Or Lighter Than The Others. It Is This Unevenly Distributed Mass That Creates An
Imbalance Wheel Balancing Is An Intervention That Aims To Compensate The Wheel With
A Mass To Restore Its Equilibrium And Make The Rotation Optimal.

Wheel Alignment
Unlike Balancing, Which Is Normally About The Tyre And Wheel Assembly, Alignment Is
In Fact About The Vehicle Suspension. Aligning Your Vehicle Suspension Means Adjusting
The Wheel Angles To The Manufacturer's Specifications. This Includes Adjusting The
Vehicle's Alignment And Camber, As Discussed In More Detail Below.
This Is A Complex Operation That Must Be Done By A Specialist.

Windshield screen wash

The main function of screen wash is to improve your visibility when driving, helping
remove any grime or dirt from off your windsreen. Ensuring that your screen wash is never
empty helps extend the lifespan of your wiper blades, too! Using screen wash will help your
wiper blades glide smoothly and help effectively move any debris. It is a good idea to
always keep a bottle of screen wash in the boot of your vehicle.

Handbrake Check
Engage The Handbrake. Count The Number Of Clicks Until It Is Engaged. If It Is Above
The Recommended Amount, Continue Onto The Next Step.Remove The Handbrake
Trim Using The Plastic Pry Tool And Screwdriver To Expose The Brake’s Inner Workings..
Adjust The Brake By Using Your Socket Wrench To Tighten The Adjustment Bolt.Check
The Handbrake And Continue To Adjust Until Appropriately Tightened.Reinstall The
Handbrake Trim.Test The Handbrake By Engaging The Brake On A Hill Or By Trying To
Push Your Vehicle.

Differential Fluid Check

Locate The Differential Fill Plug. Generally, The Fill Plug Is Located On The Differential
Or The Differential Front Cover. The Plug May Be Either Hex- Or Square-Shaped. Loosen
The Differential Fill Plug. Put An Oil Drain Pan Under The Differential And Loosen The
Differential Fill Plug With The Appropriate Tool. Some Fill Plugs Are Loosened With A
Ratchet And Socket, Whereas Others, Those With Square Female Inserts, Are Loosened
With A Ratchet And Extension. Remove The Differential Fill Plug. Remove The
Differential Fill Plug. Fluid Should Run Out. If It Does Not, The Level Is Low And Fluid
Should Be Added.
