Making an Original Question

* From the information in the homework unit,


find something that is not asked in the
homework questions.
* For example (from the ICT textbook):
Q: List up some of the ICT-related jobs that
you know.

the unit, and answer it.

Why is impromptu speech important?


* In some situations you may be asked to share
some words to the public without a prior notice.
• small talk at networking events
• exchanging opinions in meetings
• wedding celebrations
on social/everyday
• when leaving an organization on academic topics

How to improve impromptu speech?


* Plan your speech with a focus of one (or two) main
point(s), with several relevant examples or facts to
elaborate.
* Organize your speech in a logical format with an
introduction, body and conclusion.
* Use transitional signals such as “First, second,
third”, and useful phrases such as “for example/on
the other hand..” to connect your ideas logically.

Practice Round 1

* In a group of 3 or 4, first decide the roles:


speaker, monitor, time-keeper and responder

* Monitor: Listen to the speech while counting


how many sentences there are in the speech.
* Time-keeper: Set a timer of 90 seconds while
the speaker plan for the speech, and set a
timer of 30 seconds while the speaker is talking
* Responder: Listen to the speech and ask one
related question to the speaker

* Speaker: draw a card which contains three


topics, and choose one topic and start to
prepare for the speech. When the time-keeper
say “Go”, please show the topic to your group
members, and then stand up and talk for 30
seconds. Also answer the question from the
responder.
* Take turns to exchange the roles. Everyone
must be the speaker and responder at least
once.
* Try to talk for the entire time!
