A. Preparatory Activities
A.Drill A. Let the pupils identify which operations is used to make the
sentence true. Let the pupils raise their right hand if the
answer is plus (+) and left hand if the answer is minus (-).
Flash the cards one at a time.

B. Review Pair activity
3minutes Have pupils work in pair. Each pair will answer the
addition sentence as fast as they can. Pair to answer first
all the items win the game.

C. Motivation Ask and talk about this;

How much is your daily allowance? Do you spend all your
money? Why or why not? About how much do you save each

B. Pre- Activity 1. Let the pupils read the word problem:

Mother has 18 lily flowers from her garden. She placed 5


lily flowers in the vase. How many flowers were left?

2. Talk about this.

a. How many lily flowers are there in all?


b. How many flowers did mother place in the vase?
c. Can you illustrate your answer or show your solutions?
d. Guide pupils to illustrate their answers.

3. Pose another problem.

Rene saved a part of his daily allowance. After a month, she


has saved P488.00. He spent P153.00 for a birthday gift for
his mother and he save the rest. How much did he save?

4. Discuss:
a. Who saved money?
b. What kind of boy is Rene?
c. What is asked in the problem?
d. What are the given facts?
e. How are you going to solve it?
f. Can you guess the answers? Let pupils give their guesses.
C. Analysis A. Say, let us check if your guesses are correct. Based on the
5minutes problem opener, identify the minuend and the subtrahend.
Identify the place value of each digit.
