Briefly explain the information contained in your submission.

What were you trying to

say? Why? This should be a few sentences (e.g., “This submission contains a theory of
writing paper that examines (insert theory topic here). I was trying to…”)

This submission contains a theory of writing paper that examines “Does social media
hinder the learning of high school students?”. I was trying to explain and provide information on
why that inquiry is confirmed.

Discuss each and every choice you made in service of the goals you mentioned in #1 and
the work you mentioned in #2. (This will be the longest section of your statement, and
could cover several paragraphs.)

When I was completing the paper, I was thinking of it as a normal paper that I would
have done in high school. I kind of forgot how to do a proper paper and how to format it, which
led to the red I received in on my feedback. I forgot to add a title and I forgot to put the correct
MLA page number. I started the paper off by finding the sources, I looked at different types like
articles and videos. The way I found the majority of the sources was by using sites that I had
access to like the UTRGV library website to find articles that related to my inquiry. I read the
article and now I am realizing that all I did was pretty much summarize what I read and included
it into my paper. I didn’t really use it in a way that benefited me. I went through for the first paper
and made the paragraphs in the middle be nothing but information about the sources. I had
pretty much summarized the articles. Another thing I failed to do was use five sources, I had
used two instead and provided lots of information on just those two. At the end of my first paper,
I just went over everything I had talked about and concluded it there. On my second piece of
work, I was able to use feedback to revise the my paragraphs. I pretty much started from top to
bottom. I used most of what was provided to me to assist me in correcting my paper.

What work does your submission accomplish? How? For whom?

My paper was able to accomplish the idea that I was trying to convey. I was able to
receive feedback to where I was able to modify the text in a way that was able to share my
message the way I wanted to. I received feedback from my professor and from the students that
are in my group. I used the feedback that benefited me and incorporated it into my paper to
enhance the overall outcome.

Explain who and what helped you accomplish your objective.

My professor and groupmates some of the people that helped me achieve my objective
of the paper. They were able to read and point out mistakes that I may have missed when I was
doing the self assessment. They saw the mistakes I didn’t realize about the title and about the
page number that I didn’t include. I also contributed to the revision and editing of my paper, I
was able to find some stuff that my classmates didn’t notice.
Explain how your sources connect to and support the argument within your artifact.

My sources connect to my inquiry by providing information and some statistics on the

affects or outcome of the use of technology in schools. I was able to find find credible authors
that would provide me with information that would strengthen my response. Some of the
sources I found did challenge my stance of my inquiry but I was able to use some of their
information that relates to my question.

Explain what you have learned about engaging in inquiry, making rhetorical choices,
doing research, and using sources.

I learned many things when it comes to engaging inquiry. I learned that there are so many
questions that can be asked and that they can be broad if you want an exact answer. You have
to phrase it right to get the answer that you want. The research also taught me to not go with the
first google link that comes up. I was taught to dive deeper and do research on the author of the
source to find out if they really know what they are doing. When using sources, I learned to
properly cite them and when providing information I can quote them. I don’t need to let the
sources overtake my paper.
