WORK MEASUREMENT TECHNIQUES

 Work Sampling: It involves observing a portion or sample

of the work activity.
 Statements about the activity are made after
observation of the study.
 Ex – Fire department rescue squad.
 Applications of work sampling:
 Ratio delay to determine the activity – time percentage
for personnel or machine.
WORK MEASUREMENT TECHNIQUES

 Performance measurement to develop a performance

index for employees.
 Time standards to obtain standard time for a task.
 Steps involved in work – sampling study:
 Identify the specific activity or activities that are the
main purpose for the study.
 Estimate the proportion of time of the activity of interest
to the total time.
WORK MEASUREMENT TECHNIQUES

 Steps involved in work – sampling study:

 State the desired accuracy in the study results.
 Determine the specific times when each observation is
to be made.
 At two or three intervals during the study period,
recompute the required sample size using the data
collected thus far.
