This document provides details on the fresh water cooling system of the oil product tanker Ipanema Street. The system uses fresh water circulated in low and high temperature circuits and cooled by sea water in central coolers. The low temperature circuit cools machinery like engines and compressors to around 36°C, while the high temperature circuit has separate circuits for engine and generator jackets to precisely control higher temperatures of around 80°C and 84°C respectively. Pumps circulate the water and control valves regulate temperatures and water flows between circuits.

This system is divided is LOW temperature & HIGH temperature circuits. Central coolers – are plate type coolers. In which fresh water pressure must be higher than sea water presure, to prevent leak of sea water in side of wresh water system, in case of bad sealing betwen plates. LOW Temperature circuit – Is circuit with temperature ~ 36 °C (after central cooler). To maintain specific temperature „3-way” control valve is used, it controls flow amount that is passing throught central coolers. On diagram we can see which machinery is cooled by LT circuit: M/E LO cooler, M/E AIR cooler, Drain cooler, G/E LO & Air coolers, Main Air compressors, and etc. Central cooling fresh water pumps (No.1 or No.2) are circulating water in this circuit. HIGH Temperature circuit – Is more complicated than LT circuit. It is divided in two separate circuits, one for M/E Jacket, another one for G/E Jacket. Outlet temperature for M/E Jacket must be ~ 80 °C, for G/E Jacket ~ 84 °C. Temparatures are controled by „3-way” control valves, by adding or reducing amount of cool water from LT circuit. Each G/E has attached pump for jacket water. For M/E Jacket water circulation 2 Jacket cooling fresh water pupms are instaled. M/E Jacket can be cooled down aditionaly by FWG’s Evaparator or can be heated with steam heat exchanger.
