Lesson Title
Graphing Quadratic Functions - Presentation
Content Area
Advanced Algebra

Content Standards
AA.FGR.5.1 Graph and analyze quadratic functions in contextual situations
and include analysis of data sets with regressions
Technology Standards
1.1 Empowered Learner
1.1a – Students articulate and set personal learning goals, develop
strategies leveraging technology to achieve them and reflect on the
learning process itself to improve learning outcomes.
1.1b - Students build networks and customize their learning environments
in ways that support the learning process.
1.1c – Students use technology to seek feedback that informs and
improves their practice and to demonstrate their learning in a variety of
ways.
1.1d – Students understand the fundamental concepts of technology
operations; demonstrate the ability to choose, use and troubleshoot
current technologies; and are able to transfer their knowledge to explore
emerging technologies.
1.2 Digital Citizen
1.2a – Students cultivate and manage their digital identity and reputation,
and are aware of the permanence of their actions in the digital world.
1.2b - Students engage in positive, safe, legal and ethical behavior when
using technology, including in social interactions online or when using
networked devices.
1.2c - Students demonstrate an understanding of and respect for the
rights and obligations of using and sharing intellectual property.
1.2d - Students manage their personal data to maintain digital privacy
and security, and are aware of data-collection technology used to track
their navigation online.

Usage Plan
Before launching this lesson, I will send an email out to the parents seeking
permission for students to use online collaboration site that may collect their
login information. The parents will be made aware that my students will follow
a guideline of expectations and the sites they venture on will be safe.
students will have a guideline of expectations of how I expect them to follow
while they complete this assignment. Students are then provided resources
that will be useful for them completing the assignment. Such resources would
be Kahoot, Chegg, Quora, Reddit, Youtube, Desmos, and Quizlet, to assist in
their presentation creation. Students can choose to share their project on an
online publishing website or not. If a student chooses to use a collaboration
site, I did not provide on a list, then they must get my approval

Students, are given full reign on how they choose to present the material to
the class. They could have our class engage in an activity, math problem
tasks, etc. Along with their presentation, they must also submit to me a short
reflection on what they learned from the presentation, how they could
improve, and at the end, they must include what sites they used to get their
information from and what site they ended up publishing their presentation
on. As long as my students follow the guidelines and online safety policies,
then they should be good.
Design Features a. Collaboration with peers, near-peers, mentors outside their classroom and
often beyond their school:

Students are given links that take them to different collaboration sites such as
Chegg, Reddit, and Dr. Math. I also encourage Students to join a Groupme,
so that way they access to their peers or peers outside of their school which
can help enhance their learning experience.

b.Student-centered learning and knowledge creation (creating original data

and or producing original products as a result of engaging in a project):

Students are given full autonomy for how they want to learn and present the
material. They are given access to YouTube videos, peers, groupmembers,
and other teachers. Students could do a google presentation, create a Prezi,
make a Quizlet, or conduct activities to help teach the material. I will also
summarize their ideas at the end of class and give them a summary sheet of
the lesson which will help deepen their knowledge.

c. Higher-order thinking:

Students are pressed into higher-order thinking by trying to make sense of

the mathematics with minimum assistance from the teacher. By generating
questions, doing research online, engaging in a mathematical discussion with
peers, and persistence in making sense of the mathematics, students are
engaged in Higher-order math thinking.

d. Students publishing their original work to others who will use/care about
their product:

Students are given the option to submit their work on Online Publishing sites,
where others can use their presentation and make tweaks as long as they
credit the original piece.
Universal Design
Rationale
Students will engage in differentiated instruction through which each group of
student will have a different product produced from their collaboration, which
satisfies the Multiple Means of Expression on the UDL wheel. Students also
can work with their selected groups on collaboration sites and interact with
other groups of students, which satisfies the Multiple Means of Engagement
on the UDL wheel. And students can use a wide variety of tools to represent
the content, such as using audio and visual representation of quadratic
functions or having the students engage in a basketball activity, both of which
satisfies the Multiple Means of Representation on the UDL wheel.
Lesson Idea

The project will be introduce at least two weeks in advance for which the
content will be taught. Students first will be tasked with brainstorming
questions, strategics, and other means of learning the material that they will
be tasked with teaching. Students will be given two weeks to complete this
assignment, a week and a half to submit their group’s product and the
remainder to complete the reflection. I will assess my students my asking
them questions in the middle of the presentation to clarify their reasoning,
important points, and summarize the big takeaway from this lesson. The final
product will differentiate my students learning because they are given
different representations of the material, they have the summary, and I could
use their presentations to tweak my future lessons to be centered around
their ideas.
Internet Safety

The sites that I will provide students will not collect any private information
from them and any site that they want to use must seek approval.
Design Reflection
Students will have different representations of the material being taught and I
will utilize their ideas to tweak my future lessons.
