Creative Writing Club Proposal Form
Name of club:

Creative Writing Club

Club starting:

Next term (for us: MYP 5)

Introduction:

Our club channels creativity through different forms of writing, along with the analysis of diverse
mediums used to express emotions. All of it will be combined with various group tasks, discussions
which will thus enable curiosity in the students to go out and be encouraged to create something of
their own.

Aim:

 Improving ourselves (self-reflection) in a way which gives us new perspectives and broadens
our vocabulary while heightening our experience in writing stories and creating pieces of
literature.
 Helping others learn new skills and gain the ability to express their thoughts and desires in a
variety of creative writing types to have more interesting and unique perspectives on
themselves and the world around them.
 To increase creativity and exercise the brain.

Teacher:

Vidya ma’am (ENGLISH & TOK TEACHER – IB)

Unit details:

Emotion through writing

GC- Identities and relationships

RC- form and structure, context

KC- perspective

SOI: Identities and relationships are affected by our perspective which we portray in certain contexts
through the form and structure of our writing.

Exploring different types of creative writing:

 Poems
 Songs
 Short Stories
 Scriptwriting
 Comic Strips
 Letter writing
 Diary entries
 Opinion Pieces

Interactive sessions:

One example of a unique interactive activity we can perform in the club would be for all the
members to sit in a circle and write a story together. They would each write a sentence of the story
and pass it along to the next person, however, only the previous sentence written would be visible
and the story has to be based on that, making the creativity of the student’s flourish.

Individual sessions:

One of our main ideas is for us to give a prompt to the students and for each of them to create their
own story within a certain word limit. Once that has been completed, all the students will peer
review each other's stories and discuss how each of them expresses the same prompt in different
ways, and how they can take that in to improve their expression of ideas through the current style of
writing.

System:

 Overview: Overall, we want this club to last all the way till the end of DP, we hope to garner
a large number of members by then, giving us the ability to hand over the club’s control to
someone else worthy of this responsibility when we graduate. When it comes to who can
join the club, we will allow anybody from MYP 1 onwards to join.
 Responsibilities: We have decided that while Vidya ma’am will teach in all the sessions, me
and Anshika will be the ones working together to create the lesson plans. We will then
present it to Vidya ma’am and in a meeting, make any and all necessary changes for it. We
will also handle the participation of the members in book-writing competitions etc.
 Platform for connection: If possible, we would like to spread the stories we write on various
sites for free reading and build up to writing an actual paid digital book if possible. For this
purpose we could do a bit of promotion of said stories by creating accounts on social media
such as Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. By gaining this positive attention we can motivate
the students to keep working on more stories and further improve upon their skills.
 Research: By research, we mean the activates involving research and the research on what
to teach the club members. Activities involving research will be simple, usually verbal and
informal so that it doesn’t become boring; for example, we would do an activity where they
have to research on how to create an opinion piece, and then explain it verbally in their own
words. This would aid their speaking skills, thus making them more confident in other classes
where speaking skills are also required. When it comes to researching on what to teach
students, we will look into researching on a variety of creative-writing styles they could
learn, alongside sample pieces of each style for analysis and better understanding, hence
enhancing their comprehension and analysis skills.
Conclusion:

Like all other skills, writing only improves with practice, and with it’s importance in both personal
and work environments, it is certainly a skill worth building a club around. This is because it
enhances our communication and comprehension skills, allowing us to impress others or to properly
communicate thoughts, ideas, and information in any environment. Thus we are highly motivated to
start this club and and spread our joy of writing with others in our community.
