GCR (31-Oct-2023).
1. Explain One-way ANOVA, its assumptions, limitations, and process.
2. Explain Two-way ANOVA, its assumptions, process, and its types.
3. Explain the following: ANCOVA, MANOVA, MANCOVA.
4. An engineer is studying methods for improving the ability to detect targets on a radar
scope. Two factors she considers to be important are the amount of background noise, or
“ground clutter,” on the scope and the “type of filter” placed over the screen. The response
variable is intensity level. It is experienced that the ground clutter can be categorized into
three levels, ie., low, medium, and high and two filter types are available in the market.

Factor Ground Clutter

Filter Types Low (1) Medium (2) High (3)
Type 1 90, 96, 100, 92 102, 106, 105, 96 114, 112, 108, 98
Type 2 86, 84, 92, 81 97, 90, 97, 80 93, 91, 95, 83

5. The illness caused by a virus in a city concerning some restaurant inspectors is not
consistent with their evaluations of cleanliness of restaurants. In order to investigate this
possibility, the director has five restaurant inspectors to grade the cleanliness of three
restaurants. The results are shown below. Carry out two-way ANOVA at 5% level of
significance.
Restaurants
Inspectors
I II III
1 71 55 84
2 65 57 86
3 70 65 77
4 72 69 70
5 76 64 85

6. A paper manufacturer makes grocery bags. They are interested in increasing the tensile
strength of their product. It is thought that strength is a function of the hardwood
concentration in the pulp. An investigation is carried out to compare four levels of
hardwood concentration: 5%, 10%, 15% and 20%. Six test specimens are made at each
level and all 24 specimens are then tested in random order. Do all our groups come from
populations with the same mean? The results from the experiment are shown below:
Hardwood Tensile Strength (PSI) Mean Standard
Concentration (%) Deviation
5 7 8 15 11 9 10 10 2.83
10 12 17 13 18 19 15 15.67 2.81
15 14 18 19 17 16 18 17 1.79

8. Explain Central Composite designs (CCD) and its types.

9. Explain Box-Behnken designs (BBD).
10. Response surface for certain manufacturing process was defined by the given
equation(𝑍=17𝑥1 +27𝑥2−𝑥12−0.9𝑥22). Determine the approximate optimum operating
point using the method of steepest ascent. The starting point of research should be X 1=2
and X2=3 and step size C=4.
