The classic way to say hello in Arabic is:


as-Salaam ‘Alaykum
‫السالم عليكم‬
(It literally means: Peace be upon you)

If someone says this to you, you should reply:


Wa ‘Alaykum as-Salaam
‫و عليكم السالم‬
(And upon you be peace)
