Camera Trainee - They help prepare the kit at the beginning of the job and may be

involved with camera and lens tests. Experience needed - a bachelor's degree in a field
related to film or broadcasting, such as communications

Second assistant camera - prepares camera equipment before shooting and


coordinating the packing at the end of the shoot. Experience needed - at least basic
camera skills

Focus puller - maintaining the focus of a shot in progress. Experience needed - A


degree in Film Studies or Photography

Grip - a technician who sets up, operates, and maintains the rigging and equipment that
supports the camera. Experience needed - knowledge of camera and lighting
equipment, construction, carpentry, mechanics, electrical systems, and wiring, and be
generally technical-minded.

Grip trainee - to learn the trade. Experience needed - Must have a passion for Film and
TV. Must be over 19 years of age. Must know what a Grip does. Must be a member of
the BECTU. Must have a Certified Proposer Must adhere to the Code of Conduct.

Director of Photography - the person responsible for the recording of a film, television
production, music video or other live-action piece. Experience needed - any film
experience is helpful, positions that require collaboration will best prepare you for
working as a director of photography.

Digital imaging technician - help the director of photography (DoP) with the digital know-
how of the camera. Experience needed - having a background in the digital arts,
imaging technology, and video production equipment.

Video assist operators - take the images generated by the film or digital cameras and
display them on video monitors so the director and other crew members can see exactly
what's been shot. Experience needed - working at a junior level for camera hire
companies or video playback companies
Video assistant trainee - help unload the vans, lay cables and set up the equipment.
Experience needed - Prepare equipment for shoot Establish and set up base for video
village. Manage camera batteries. Assist camera crew. De-rig and pack camera
equipment after shoots. Liaise with other people and departments to meet production
requirements. Follow health and safety requirements.
