E: Good morning everyone, today António and I are going to present the evolution of

computers and their importance. The history of computing is divided into four generations.

A: The first generation begins in 1946 and ends in 1959. The first computer was the ENIAC
(Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer) and was created in 1946 by the Americans
John Eckert and John Mauchly. ENIAC weighed thirty tons and occupied 180 square meters.
the computer cost eight million dollars.

E: The second generation begins in 1959 and ends in 1965. The computers of this time had
already decreased in size but were still too large to have at home. In this generation, the
commercialization of computers has already started.

A: The third generation begins in 1965 and ends in 1975. in this generation, computers
already looked similar to those of today and already had greater storage capacity. It was at
this time that the use of personal computers began.

E: The fourth generation started in

1975 and comes to this day. In this generation computers are increasingly smaller and with
greater speed and storage. It was here, more precisely in the 1990s, that there was a great
expansion of personal computers.

A: Nowadays the computer has a great importance in our lives, because we basically have the
world in our hands. Through the computer we can have news from all over the world, learn
other languages and get to know other countries.

E: With the computer we can also collect information, shop, have fun playing games and
because of the pandemic we even go to school.
The computer is so advanced that we managed to survive without having to leave the house.
This was our presentation.

computer was created in 1972 by Alan Kay, but it was never commercialized.

A: In 1982 it was launched on the Epson HX-20, which had a monochrome LCD screen and was
the first computer to come with a battery
