Introduction

1.1 Background

Library plays an important role on how a student learn things; it gives them time to
understand a certain topic, help them construct a more reasonable explanation about
something that they are curious about and they can freely imagine or have clear picture of what
they are reading which can possibly result in a more creative thinking of a child or student. It is
also one of the major sources of ideas, theories, philosophies, and knowledge that can be used
by both the teachers and the students which also help ensure an authentic record of knowledge
created by past generations.
The inspiring story of William Kamkwamba from Malawi underlines the difference a
library can make. Having borrowed a book about windmills from his local library, Mr.
Kamkwamba learned how to build an energy-producing turbine for his village. On the strength
of this experience, he went on to study at a leading US university. That one book not only
changed his life; it also transformed the lives of those in his village community. This shows how
a simple book can change a person’s life and so this explains why many countries are eager to
ensure that libraries continue to provide access to knowledge, learning and ideas.
World-wide Library Management System such as Atriuum ILS, Apollo ILS/LSP made the
everyone’s life easier as students, researchers around the world can use or read it whenever
they want. Keeping in mind the importance of a library, the idea of Non-Web Based Library
Management System arouses. However, it is narrowed down so only students and faculty
members of Cotabato State University can use it.
Non-Web Based Library Management System is a software program that helps librarians
to manage day-to-day operations of a library such as books, journals, magazines and other
materials, which also helps the student save time in finding books that they need in a library.
This type of system will be installed on a local computer or server and does not require an
internet connection to function. This makes them suitable for libraries that do not have reliable
internet connectivity or have security concerns. Its system contains database where all the
information is stored safely.
It usually offers a range of features including Cataloging tools for managing collections,
Circulation management for tracking loans and returns, Patron management for creating and
maintaining borrower records, and reporting capabilities for generating various types of reports
such as circulation statistics or overdue items.
1.2 Objectives and Significance

In Digital Era, where life has become easier with the use of new technologies, the idea of
making a Library Management System arouse however, taking in consideration the status of
internet in Cotabato City the idea then upgraded into more usable system as we planned
