Political dynasty in Makati

The political clans like the Binays were able to go around the term limit of
three years in office for three consecutive terms under the country’s 1987
Constitution

Let us introduce
Jejomar binay – Vice president of the Philippines 2010 to 2016, former
mayor of makati from 1986 to 1998, 2001 to 2010.
 Elenita Binay – former mayor of Makati 1998 to 2001
 Maria Lourdes "Nancy" Binay – senator of the Philippines from 2013 to
present
 Mar-Len Abigail "Abby" Binay – mayor of Makati from 2016 to present,
Congresswoman of Makati's 2nd District 2007 to2016
o Luis Jose Angel Campos – Congressman of Makati's 2nd District
from 2019 to present, husband of Abby Binay
 Jejomar Erwin "Junjun" Binay, Jr. – mayor of Makati (2010 to 2015),
member of the Makati city council from the 1st district (2001 to 2010),
former Sangguniang Kabataan chairman of Barangay San Antonio, Makati
(1992 to 2001)

The fact is, the Binays consider Makati their own fiefdom—to be defended
at all costs from any attack. Led by their patriarch Jojo Binay, they have
established a political dynasty in Makati over the last 30 years. They are
now accused of ransacking the coffers of the city to stay in power. They
flaunt power as witness the “misencounter” the son had with hapless
security guards of Dasmariñas Village, who were only following the rules
and regulations of the private subdivision’s homeowners association. In
that incident, Sen. Nancy Binay was with her brother-mayor.

The elder Binay is said to have manipulated city ordinances and

regulations when he himself was Makati’s mayor to advance hismaterial
interests, which accordingly explains why he is a billionaire now. The
Binays are now seen to be giving a lot to the have-nots of Makati while
robbing them blind of their taxes.

Binay gave way first to his wife Doctora Elenita Binay, who is also still
fighting at the Sandiganbayan a graft case against her. Later on, eldest
name sake son, Jejomar “Jun-jun” Binay Jr. ran and got elected as Makati
Mayor. This was while elder Binay run and won as VP runningmate of
president Joseph Estrada during the May 2010 elections. At present, the
country’s richest city government is headed by the second daughter of
the former Vice President, Mar-Len Abigail Binay-Campos. Mayor Abby –
for brevity’s sake – was my featured guest in my Kapihan sa Manila Bay
breakfast news forum last Wednesday at Cafe Adriatico in Remedios
Circle.

Jojo Binay and President Aquino are a study in contrast. While P-Noy
slavishly protects his “kabarilan at kaibigan,” never mind if the effort
buries him in muck, Binay allegedly discards even his closest allies once
they are no longer useful to him and his political dynasty. (Toby Tiangco
and JV Bautista, you are given fair warning.) While P-Noy has difficulty in
comprehending the intricacies and consequences of the law, Binay is said
to study all its loopholes to get what he wants.
Binay established his own political dynasty. Initially appointed officer-in-
charge, Binay later on got elected as the Mayor of Makati City. And for the
next several decades, the people of Makati City had only been served by a
Mayor Binay since then.
