“Speedy Bump

Scarf”

Created by Carrie Johnson- Feb 2015

Materials needed:
Loops and Thread mini loom from Michaels or you can use any other long loom
depending on the look you want. You may even try the MS loom ( Martha Stewart ) or
the AIO (All in One Loom) set at smallest setting. Please note I have not tried this on any
other loom except the Loops and Thread mini and the KK pink long loom using all pegs!

Yarn
Loom hook

Stitches to know:
e-wrap cast on
e-wrap
Box stitch also known as the Rib stitch ( videos can be found on you tube)

Let’s get started!

First you want to pick a side that you’ll want to e-wrap, the side you chose will be your e-
wrap side! It will help if you place a marker of some sort on the first peg to remind you
what side is your e-wrap side!

Cast on- e-wrap cast on all pegs (e-wrap side only)

Rows 1-5: e-wrap each peg ( on the side you chose for your e-wrap side) making sure to
slip the first and last pegs.

The side you see with the stitch marker is my knit side

Rows 6-10: You will switch to the box stitch and do five rows.
Alt back and forth between 5 rows of e-wrap and 5 rows of the box stitch till you get the
length you want. I knit my scarf in the above pic for about 60”.

To end the scarf, knit the last five rows of the box/rib stitch. You’ll then move those
loops over to the e-wrap side and knit over! One side of your loom should be empty!
Then e-wrap 5 more rows and then cast off!

When your ready then cast off using whatever cast off you like. For my cast off, I knitted
the second peg and moved it over to the first peg. Then I wrapped the peg and lifted both
loops over and move that loop over to the next peg and repeated the process over again.

Weave in any loose yarn tails and your done!

Just for fun try the ‘Speed Bump Stitch’ to make anything you want from scarves, to
blankets, to cowls, to even a loom hook holder! Yep! That’s right a loom hook holder.
Those little bumps you see there also makes for a hiding place to place your hooks. Just
take your hook and slide them inside the bumps.

Also as another added bonus you can also change the distance of your bumps by
increasing or decreasing the number of e-wrap rows. So if you want you bumps closer
then decrease your e-wrap rows or if you want your bumps farther apart then increase
your e-wrap rows. Also please note I have not yet tried this and thought it would be
something to add if someone wants to try it.

Enjoy!

Here it is being made on the Knifty Knitter long pink loom!

Now it’s a loom hook holder, see the loom hook! It’s inside the bump, just slide it in and
there you go a place to put your hooks!
