SECTION 11 – ROUTINE MAINTENANCE

11.1 ROUTINE MAINTENANCE ACTIVITIES DURING CONSTRUCTION PERIOD

11.1.1 Maintain The Existing Road

Unit

The unit of measurement shall be of Kilometer Month (km-mth).

Measurement

The measurement for payment shall be made in kilometer month or part thereof.

Item Coverage

The items shall include all labour, equipments, tools, material, transport and whatever
necessary to maintain the existing road which shall comprise of all the works stated below :

a) To Repair Pavement Surface

The works shall comprise of:

i) Patching of potholes
ii) Sealing of surface cracks
iii) Reinstate edge deterioration of back filled trenches
iv) Treatment to stripping of aggregate
v) Treatment for rutting
vi) Treatment to deterioration of concrete pavement
vii) Repair to concrete pavement joints
viii)Repair to paving blocks and slabs

b) To Maintain Road Shoulder

The works shall comprise of:

i) Re-grading and clearing of vegetation

ii) Topping up of shoulder with suitable filling material
iii) Filling irregularities in unsealed shoulders
iv) Filling pavement/shoulder level differences

11.1.2 Grass Cutting

Unit

The unit of measurement shall be on Monthly basis (mth).

Measurement

The measurement for payment shall be made on monthly basis or part thereof.

Item Coverage

The items shall include all labour, equipments, tools, material, transport and whatever
necessary to carry out the grass cutting works at the frequency of once a month at the area
stated below:

a) Road shoulder

b) Slope area

c) Berm drain, interceptor drain and all other types of drain on slopes

d) Median

11.1.3 Road Furnitures

Unit

The unit of measurement shall on a Cycle basis (cycle).

Measurement

The measurement for payment shall be on the basis of a number of cycle or part thereof as
stated below :-

a) 4 cycle per year

b) 2 year per cycle

Item Coverage

The items shall include all labour, equipments, tools, material, transport and whatever
necessary to carry out the maintenance works at the frequency as stated below:

a) The works shall comprise of cleaning works and shall be carried out 4 cycles/year

i) Cleaning of guardrails and barriers

ii) Cleaning of signages and posts
iii) Cleaning of kilometer post and delineator post
iv) Cleaning of traffic signal aspects

b) The works shall comprise of repainting works and shall be carried out 2 years/cycle

i) Repainting of guardrails and barriers

ii) Repainting of sign posts and traffic signal posts
iii) Repainting of delineator posts and kilometer posts
iv) Repainting of road kerbs

11.1.4 Bridges and Culverts

Unit

The unit of measurement shall be on a Cycle basis (cycle).

Measurement

The measurement for payment shall on the basis of a number of cycle or part thereof as stated
below :-

a) 4 cycle per year

b) 1 year per cycle

Item Coverage

The items shall include all labour, equipments, tools, material, transport and whatever
necessary to carried out the maintenance works at the frequency as stated below:

a) The works shall comprise of cleaning works and shall be carried out 4 cycles/year

i) Cleaning of expansion joints

ii) Cleaning of weep holes
iii) Cleaning of parapets
iv) Cleaning of bearing shelves
v) Cleaning of grafiti and markings
vi) Cleaning of waterway or culvert opening and bridge carriageway
vii) Cleaning and removal of vegetation
viii)Cleaning, lubricating and greasing operation for steel bearings

b) The works shall comprise of repainting works and shall be carried out 1 year/cycle

i) Repainting of Concrete Parapets/ Railings

ii) Repainting of Steel Railings

11.1.5 Roadline Marking

Unit

The unit of measurement shall be Meter Square (m²).

Measurement

The measurement for payment shall be the total length of completed road marking.

Item Coverage

The items shall include all labour, equipments, tools, material, transport and whatever
necessary to carry out the repainting of roadline marking when faded and to the satisfaction of
the S.O.

11.1.6 Drainage

11.1.6(a) Cleaning

Unit

The unit of measurement shall be on a Cycle basis (cycle).

Measurement

The measurement for payment shall be on the basis of 4 cycle per year or part thereof

Item Coverage

The items shall include all labour, equipments, tools, material, transport, disposal and
whatever necessary to carry out the cleaning works at the frequency as stated below:

The works shall comprise of cleaning and desilting works and shall be carried out 4
cycles/year

i) Debris in lined drains

ii) Debris in unlined drains

iii) Debris in sumps

iv) Debris in culverts

11.1.6(b) Minor Repair

Unit

The unit of measurement shall be respectively as below

i) Linear Meter (m).

ii) Number (nr).

Measurement

The measurement for payment shall be respectively as below

i) the total length of the completed repair works

ii) the total number of completed repair works

Item Coverage

The items shall include all labour, equipments, tools, material, transport, disposal and
whatever necessary to carried out the repair works as stated below:

The works shall comprise of minor repair as follows:

i) Repair to damaged drains

ii) Repair to damaged sumps

 iii) Repair to misaligned unlined drains

iv) Reseat mis-seated covers

v) Repair to damaged covers

11.1.7 Landscaping

Unit

The unit of measurement shall be of Kilometer Month (km mth).

Measurement

The measurement for payment shall be made in kilometer month or part thereof.

Item Coverage

The items shall include all labour, equipments, tools, material, transport, supply and whatever
necessary to maintain the landscaping works which shall comprise of maintaining all
landscaped area including trees, shrubs/bushes as described below:

a) Watering at every alternate day.

b) Cutting and trimming and shall be carried out once a month.

c) Weeding, fertilising, insect pest and disease control, pruning and mulching and shall be
carried out once a month.

11.1.8 Litter Collection and Disposal of Minor Obstruction/Debris

Unit

The unit of measurement shall be Lump Sum (sum).

Measurement

The measurement for payment shall be made in lump sump or part thereof as and when
required or as per directed by the S.O.

Item Coverage

The items shall include all labour, equipments, tools, material, transport and whatever
necessary to carry out the works and shall comprise of all the works stated below :

a) Litter collection and disposal and shall be carried out as and when required.

b) Removal and disposal of loose material and debris as and when required.

c) Removal and disposal of carcass as and when required.

11.2 ROUTINE MAINTENANCE ACTIVITIES DURING DEFECT
LIABILITY/MAINTENANCE PERIOD *

The Contractor shall provide all labour, equipments, tools, material, transport and whatever
necessary to maintain the existing road which shall comprise of all the works stated below:

11.2.1 Grass Cutting
