CLASS PRACTICE: SITUATIONAL WRITING

You are advised to write between 250 and 350 words for this section.

You should look at the printout of a flyer on the next page, study the information
carefully and plan your answer before beginning to write.

A friend of yours has recently written to you about his desire to serve the community
using his skills, and has asked if you would be interested to join him. You recently
saw a flyer that encouraged youths to use their abilities to benefit others in the
community. You want to suggest ideas to your friend so that you can help others
together.

Write a letter to your friend explaining:

 one activity from the flyer that you could do together to serve the community
 one activity not from the flyer that you could do together to serve the
community
 how these activities utilize your friend’s and your skills or talents
 why you think these activities will be meaningful for both of you and the
beneficiaries

Write your letter in clear, accurate English and in a clear and enthusiastic tone that
will convince your friend that your suggestions are worthwhile and appropriate.

You should use your own words as much as possible.
