Good Afternoon to all teachers, all audiences, and all juries. It’s a honorable for me to be
here again, as the part of this competition. Before I begin to give my speech I would like to invite
you all to thanks to the Almighty God who has given us mercy and blessing so we can meet here
together in this English Speech contest.
First I want to ask you something, did you know the stands of the OSPEK? “Orientasi
Studi Pengenalan Kampus”, but for me I think it’s Orientation Students Punishment, Effortless
and Kindless. Why I said like that? Because the purpose of OSPEK now is different with the
should be.
Well, it’s supposed to be a fun and unforgettable experience that the students will
remember in their life. But, have you all see how’s OSPEK in this Era? There’s so many people
now that misunderstanding OSPEK from being the moments where the juniors could adapt to
their surroundings and make friends. But I saw the ospek now more like an activity to bullying
and torture new students in some university.
Like I see a video about OSPEK that now has been Viral. All the new student has to go
up on the stairs walk by squatting, also drink water and spit that again and give to the next
person. Pitiful, imorall, effortless, also kindless.
Dear audiences the now ospek is like a knife. The purpose is should be good but they
using it in the wrong way, yes like a knife we can use it to cook or cut something but also we can
use it for hurt other people. So the one that has to be change in here is not the ospek, ospek
doesn’t wrong. Who the wrong is, they misunderstanding about ospek.
As you can see, if we use ospek in the wrong way it can makes students being traumatic
or even mental disorders. We cannot always be like this, we have to move on and find out the
real meanings of ospek.
Example in German, the ospek it’s so different with ospek in our country. If In Indonesia
as you know they being forced to do something that doesn’t relate to education or study, but in
Germany the ospek it’s so fun, friendly and educating. Also in another Developed country the
ospek is Arranged in a reasonable and not forced student.
Ladies and Gentlemen, actually I’m the one who agree with ospek, but we have clear first
our misunderstanding. Ospek should be have an activity like example we grouping the all new
freshman with their random friends, also make a yell-yell competition. Add some games, a talk
show, or introduce them about university’s environment. Make friendly as possible to make them
comfy with their new university.
And I want to tell something to all the committes of the ospek. Please be kind to new
students because they are still a human. Various people come join university to study and reach
their dream. So they all still have a good spirit then all of you just makes them scare and makes
them give up with your naïve reason about your wrong implementation about the ospek.
 If Indonesian ospek have a good understanding with the true meaning of the ospek,
someday we gonna make a generations with good integrity, best quality and also smarter then
before.
