Universe has an interesting way of making things happen in our life.

I have never thought that I will

be studying at National University of Singapore under Temasek Foundation LEaRN programme. As a
Media and Communication student from National University of Malaysia, being selected for this
programme is a great opportunity for me to explore something new in my life.

I have learned something about what student life is all about. We think that being a student
in a university is all about having fun and getting our bachelor’s degree but there is more to it. This is
the place where we find ourselves, our passion, and identify the leader in us. A place to find the best
of ourselves. By joining TF LEaRN programme I got to step out from my comfort zone and take up the
challenge in my life and face it with confidence. Back in my University I used to be a student
ambassador and student buddy at Global Relations Centre UKM. I learned how to accommodate
foreign students and interact with them. But here I learned how to adapt and survive as a foreign
student in different country. Yes Singapore is a neighbour country to Malaysia but studying at one of
the world’s top university is definitely a challenge that one must not take easily. But despite all the
possible challenges I could face here, I actually learned more and adapt myself here a little faster.
This situation brought my inner leadership capability and I found my true potential to show my
talents, communicate and also manage my daily life. This opportunity made me more responsible
towards my own self. This programme is a huge opportunity for me since 6 years ago I came to this
country to work as a gardener and cleaner due to financial difficulties to continue my studies. Now
as an exchange and scholar student I feel it’s my duty to inspire more students out there who thinks
life is unfair and staying in their comfort zone. I am here because I didn’t gave up and I am
responsible now to show them that it’s possible to do the impossible if we set our mind to it and
work hard until we get what we deserve. The Community services made me realize that no matter
how hard our situation is there will be always someone in much harder situation and it’s our
responsibility to help each. Humanity what makes us humans. I learned how to communicate using
sign language and it helped me to communicate with a deaf girl who was selling some keychains to
me. She was happy when I introduce myself to her through sing language and I realized that we
should appreciate these people and make them feel belonged. We also had a chance to experience a
life of blind people through dining in the dark session. I realized we have been taking everything for
granted while there are people who are still thankful for what they have been given in this life even
there is disability. By doing these community services I understood that it’s never about how big our
help is but it’s all about one person’s willingness to come forward to help those in need. I will
definitely continue to do this even after I go back to my home country.

Studying abroad is always a new experience since we will be exposed to new culture and traditions.
Even though Singapore and Malaysia have so many similarities in terms of cultural and traditions, I
still did found some interesting difference through my experience here. Learning experience here is
definitely different. Here I learned to be precise and to point when it comes to essay writings. My
communication also improved and I am more confident to speak in class. The class environment is a
different where students always take notes and do it precisely. Student life here in National
University of Singapore is more to exploring and innovations. I was impressed by students here who
always active and participate in events actively. Students here has more freedom to explore and
innovate. They are well organized and friendly. Campus life is designed in a way so that student can
be more productive and less stressed. Activities such as Friendship day, Young Asian Leaders Forum,
Community services, Singapore Grand Prix really helped us explore more about people in Singapore
and places here. We also had an insightful session with Nominated Member of Parliament Anthea
Ong and it really gave us a motivation to never give up in our life no matter how hard it is.
The TF LEaRN Programme at NUS is perfect as it should be. This opportunity will be a life changing
opportunity if given to those who deserved. It really changed my life and I hope TF Learn programme
will change more lives in future. The lessons I learned here will be definitely shared back. I believe
that my experience here will motivate more students to apply for this programme in future. The
network I found here through this programme will be preserved and we will be in touch in order to
make a difference in future. I got to meet different students or should I say future leaders with
different perspective and goals and all toward the betterment of future. We will definitely work
together to bring a change to this world. Once I am back to my country I will definitely be a medium
and share my thoughts with other student on why and how we can change this world. The world
definitely need fresh and proactive minds to sustain the future. I will definitely share my ideas and
passion with other students and inspire more to join together to rise and make this world a better
place for our younger generation in future. Young Asian Leaders Forum gave me a responsibility to
be an agent of change and be a leader to make a difference. I will also bring some changes in my
home university by bringing back some ideas from NUS on how we can make student life much
better and produce more quality leaders.

Life is not going to be easy on us forever. Sometimes we will be forced to face challenges which will
make us matured and strong. But where can we learn to face these challenges? TF LEaRN
programme is one of those platform where we can learn to survive and adapt to the situation. We
also can learn to manage our life as a responsible adult. This program made me to identify my
capabilities and aim higher. Now I am so confident that I am capable of achieving something bigger
and better in my life. This programme gave me the hope to dream bigger and work for it because I
am here as an exchange student under scholarship despite the hardships I have gone through 6
years ago as a cleaner. My life has turned better thanks to Temasek Foundation and NUS. Life is all
about experiencing new things and building our character, challenging ourselves and working toward
our goals. This Programme is a perfect platform to make it happen and will be a turning point in your
life .
