Art in Italy
Renaissance art arose in Italy, it arose in the fourteenth century in Italy, between the
transition from the Middle Ages to the Modern Age (1400-1600), at a time of economic
prosperity in Europe.

Italy is known as the art capital but why?

Italy is the cradle of art where the greatest masters of Baroque, Renaissance art and
many other currents were born, studied and lived. It is defined by wonderful landscapes
and tourist attractions, it is a country where you can find beach, town, city, sea, all
in one place.

Now, let's talk about the most influential artists in Italy

 Leonardo Da Vinci
What made his early works stand out was the novel technique recently arrived from the
Netherlands: oil painting. This technique allowed him a greater softness in the line and
a deeper penetration into the fabric.

In addition to the extraordinary drawings, his great works of this period are: Saint
Jerome, The Adoration of the Magi and The Baptism of Christ, notable works that stand out
for their contrasts, their chiaroscuro technique and the geometric composition of the
scenes.

Leonardo Da Vinci created works known as:

La Gioconda

L’ultima cena

Uomo vitruviano
 Miguel Angel
During almost seventy years dedicated to art, Miguel Ángel developed his skills in
sculpture, painting, architecture and even poetry, achieving extraordinary results in
each of these artistic branches.

Several were the commissions that kept Michelangelo in constant motion, working on
diverse and important sculptures. The most recognized are: the Vatican Pietà, a work he
carried out in Rome between 1496 and 1501 and the David, created between 1502-1504, a
masterpiece of all the imitative art of Antiquity.

Miguel Angel created works known as:

Creazione di Adamo

Peccato originale e cacciata dal Paradiso terrestre

Madonna di Bruges
 Sandro Botticelli
Botticelli was characterized by his line impregnated with grace and delicacy, which is
why the female portraits, especially mythological goddesses and madonnas, were the most
perfect and remarkable pieces. In addition to being recognized for his magnificent
mastery of perspective and his knowledge of the use of light, the application of color
and obtaining volume.

His professionalism in painting began in 1472, when he began to receive his first
commissions, such as the Fortress that he created for the San Sebastián room for the
church of Santa María Maggiore.

Sandro Botticelli created works known as:

La Nascita di Venere

Allegoria della primavera

Venere e Marte

Now let's talk about museums in Italy

The Vatican Museums

Pope Julius II founded the Vatican Museums in 1506. Today, they are the most visited
museums in Italy. The Vatican's hallowed grounds are home to Michelangelo's Sistine
Chapel; the Raphael Rooms; works by Renaissance artists such as Caravaggio, da Vinci,
Giotto, Lippi and Perugino; a contemporary art gallery; a 15th century tapestry gallery;
a gallery of maps dating back to 1572; and numerous sculptures also created by great
masters of the Renaissance
Gallery of the Academy of Florence
Here is the statue David by Miguel Angel. The original statue is in the Accademia Gallery
in Florence. But, in addition to the David and the extensive collection of Renaissance
art, the Accademia Gallery in Florence is also notable for its impressive collection of
Florentine Gothic art.

Bargello National Museum

This museum offers us a splendid architecture nor is it the birth house of an Italian
leader. The Bargello National Museum, dating from 1225, housed a prison. Although the
visit can be interesting just to see such an old prison, there is another reason why the
Bargello National Museum is interesting, wonderful sculptures by Donatello are displayed
here.
