Introduction

Wakili Kemboi Foundation (WKF), a distinguished charitable organization, has

consistently championed the cause of empowerment and transformation within
marginalized communities. Our mission is deeply rooted in extending essential support
and educational opportunities to individuals irrespective of their backgrounds.

In alignment with our core principles, we are seeking to join hands with the African
Centre for Women, Information and Communication Technology (ACWICT) alongside
the Ministry of ICT to introduce the Trainers of Foundation and Basic Digital Skills
project. This initiative underscores Wakili Kemboi Foundation's commitment to
leveraging its skilled talent pool for the betterment of society.

The primary objective of this project is to provide Foundation and Basic Digital Skills
training to individuals and communities, thus equipping them with the necessary tools to
excel in today's increasingly interconnected world. The curriculum adheres closely to
the standards set by the ICT Authority, ensuring the relevance and effectiveness of the
training.

To realize the full potential of this initiative, we are actively seeking collaborative
partners, including small Internet Service Providers (ISPs), community networks, and
digital skills trainers. Together, we will play an instrumental role in delivering digital
skilling services to farmers within their areas of operation, ultimately fostering digital
empowerment and inclusion.

Project Background

The Community Digital Champions and Trainers initiative represents a significant stride
towards our commitment to empower rural communities by providing them with
essential digital skills through the ICTA (Information and Communication Technology
Authority) digital skills curriculum. This endeavor seamlessly aligns with the overarching
objectives of our mission, aimed at enhancing the capabilities of farmers and equipping
them with the fundamental digital skills required for thriving in the modern digital age.

4
The core focus of this initiative is to bridge the digital divide and empower farmers with
the knowledge and tools necessary to navigate the digital landscape effectively. It is
driven by a shared vision to uplift the livelihoods of farmers, improve agricultural
productivity, and promote social inclusion within the rural areas.

Our commitment to this project finds resonance with the broader objectives of the
Kenyan Government's digital agenda, championed by the Ministry of ICT and Digital
Economy through the ICT Authority. This initiative dovetails perfectly with the
government's mission to equip Kenyan citizens with digital skills. We are proud to be a
part of this effort to ensure that farmers are not left behind in the digital transformation
sweeping the nation.

Supported by various stakeholders and partners, including the ICT Authority and other
local organizations, our Community Digital Champions and Trainers project seeks to
harness the power of digital education to uplift the lives of farmers. This initiative is
propelled by the belief that access to digital skills can revolutionize the way farmers
manage their farms, access markets, and improve their overall well-being.

Project Implementation

The successful implementation of the Community Digital Champions and Trainers

project is crucial to achieving our mission of empowering farmers with essential digital
skills. This chapter outlines the key steps and strategies we will employ to execute this
initiative effectively.

Project Team and Roles

To ensure efficient project management, we will assemble a DEDICATED PROJECT

TEAM consisting of skilled individuals with expertise in digital education, community
engagement, and project coordination. The roles and responsibilities of the team
members will include:

Project Manager: Responsible for overall project coordination, planning, and execution.

5
Digital Skills Trainers: Certified trainers who will deliver the digital skills curriculum to
the target communities.

Community Mobilizers: Individuals tasked with engaging the community, identifying

participants, and fostering a positive learning environment.

Monitoring and Evaluation Officer: Responsible for tracking project progress,

collecting data, and assessing the impact of the training.

Administrative Support: To handle logistical and administrative tasks related to the

project.

Needs Assessment

Before commencing the training, a comprehensive needs assessment will be conducted

in collaboration with local leaders and community representatives. This assessment will
help us tailor the curriculum to the specific needs and challenges faced by farmers. It
will also identify the existing level of digital literacy within the community.

Curriculum Development

Based on the needs assessment and in consultation with the ICT Authority, we will
develop a customized curriculum that aligns with the Foundation and Basic Digital Skills
requirements. The curriculum will cover essential topics such as internet usage, online
safety, email communication, and digital financial literacy. It will be designed to cater to
participants with varying levels of prior digital knowledge.

Training Delivery

The training sessions will be conducted in a blended learning format to maximize

accessibility and effectiveness. We will utilize a combination of in-person workshops,
online resources, and digital tools. The training will be delivered in a phased manner,
allowing participants to grasp fundamental skills before advancing to more complex
topics. Sessions will be held in community centers and other accessible venues.

6
Community engagement is paramount to the success of this project. We will work
closely with local leaders, women's groups, and youth associations to ensure the
participation of a diverse range of community members. Regular meetings and
feedback sessions will be held to address concerns and adapt the training approach as
needed.

Monitoring and Evaluation

Continuous monitoring and evaluation will be conducted to measure the impact of the
training and identify areas for improvement. Data will be collected on participants'
progress, digital skills acquisition, and changes in their daily practices. This information
will inform ongoing adjustments to the curriculum and training methods.

Partnerships and Collaboration

We will actively seek collaboration with small Internet Service Providers (ISPs),
community networks, and local digital skills trainers to enhance the project's reach and
sustainability. Partnerships will also facilitate access to affordable internet services for
the trained individuals.

Conclusion

This proposal for the Community Digital Champions and Trainers project, presented by
the Wakili Kemboi Foundation (WKF) in collaboration with the African Centre for
Women, Information and Communication Technology (ACWICT) and the Ministry of
ICT, embodies our unwavering commitment to empowering rural communities, with
essential digital skills. It has been meticulously crafted to address the pressing need for
digital literacy and access in an increasingly interconnected world.

The success of this project hinges on the collaboration of dedicated partners, the
tireless efforts of our project team, and the enthusiastic participation of the communities
we aim to serve. Through the provision of Foundation and Basic Digital Skills training,

7
we aspire to catalyze transformation, promoting agricultural productivity, market access,
and overall well-being among its residents.

This endeavor is more than just a training program; it is a catalyst for change, a means
to empower individuals, and a step towards realizing the digital potential of every
member of our society. Wakili Kemboi Foundation (WKF) is proud to be at the forefront
of this movement, and we extend our gratitude to our partners, stakeholders, and
supporters who share our vision.
