Children are encouraged to participate in their communities, help people in need, and try to improve the world.
Participating in these community activities helps boost their self-esteem, self-confidence and builds their
compassion as well as empathy. Some people think finding age-appropriate opportunities might be difficult, but
it’s actually not because there are many ways for children to do, whether they are 2 or 12 years old.
There are many local opportunities that children and their parents can join together, even for toddlers,
preschoolers, and kindergarteners, who might look too young to volunteer. The activities may be visiting the
elderly in the nursing home or participating in a community clean-up day.
There’s no reason not to get started early. Even though children may not fully understand the meaning of
volunteering, taking part in these activities from an early age can help them establish community activity as a
regular part of their life.
