Keyboarding

TYPING QUICKLY AND EFFICIENTLY

Keyboarding 101
Did you know…
Your parents likely had the opportunity to take a
keyboarding class? The focus was almost entirely on typing
skills.
Why keyboarding?

Typing efficiently is crucial to becoming a power user of

computers. This is composed of two aspects:
- Typing using the correct fingering
- Making use of built-in keyboard shortcuts
Home Keys

The keyboard has two letters with raised ridges: F and J.

This is where your index fingers should rest with your other fingers
trailing to the left and right, respectively.
Typing Principles

Use the finger closest to the key you want to press. This might
seem obvious but sometimes there are conflicts that need to be
resolve. This is where a typing tutor comes into play.

Task: Keyboard Shortcuts

By pressing and holding CTRL in combination with other keys, you can
maneuver the cursor and insert symbols without having to use the
mouse.
Today, your task is to complete the assignment found on the course
website by writing semi-formal descriptions of what each keyboard
shortcut does.
Afterwards, get starts on the typing tutor! By using this website in your
spare class time, you’ll be typing quickly in no time!
