History

BHEL was established in 1956 ushering in the Heavy Electrical Equipment industry
in
India. Heavy Electricals (India) Limited was merged with BHEL in
1974. When it was set up in 1956, BHEL was envisaged as a plain
manufacturing PSU, with technological help from the Soviet Union. In
1980's it was cutting edge in thyristor technology. In 1991, BHEL was
converted into a public company. Over time, it developed the
capability to produce a variety of electrical, electronic, and mechanical
equipment for various sectors, including transmission, transportation,
oil and gas, and other allied industries.] However, the bulk of the
company's revenue is still derived from the sale of power generation
equipment such as turbines and boilers. As of 2017, equipment
supplied by BHEL constituted around 55% of the total installed power
generation capacity in India.] The company also supplies electric
locomotives to
The Indian Railways and defense equipment such as the Super Rapid
Gun Mount (SRGM) naval guns manufactured in partnership with the
Ordnance Factory Board and simulators to the Indian Armed Forces

Renewable energy

Renewable energy, often referred to as clean energy, comes from natural sources or processes
that are constantly replenished. For example, sunlight and wind keep shining and blowing,
even if their availability depends on time and weather.

Types of Renewable Energy

Solar energy
Wind energy
Tidal energy
Geothermal energy
Biomass energy

WIND ENERGY

Wind is used to produce electricity by converting the kinetic energy of air in motion into
electricity. In modern wind turbines, wind rotates the rotor blades, which convert kinetic
energy into rotational energy. This rotational energy is transferred by a shaft which to the
generator, thereby producing electrical energy.
Wind power generation means getting the electrical energy by converting wind energy into
rotating energy of the blades and converting that rotating energy into electrical energy by the
generator. Wind energy increases with the cube of the wind speed; therefore WTGs should be
installed in the higher wind speed area.
We are working in partnership with wind turbine manufacturers to sell wind turbines and
construct power plants using our sales network. We also keep developing electronic devices
including controlling systems with our knowledge and technologies cultivated from thermal
and hydraulic power plant designing and manufacturing technologies while are involved in
the wind power generation business on our own. With a strength of standing on sides,
manufacturer and user, we offer solutions to meet customer needs in many different
situations.

BIOMASS ENERGY

Biomass energy is a renewable and sustainable source of energy derived from organic matter
and can be used to generate electricity and other forms of power. Common materials that can
be used to develop biomass fuel include manure, forest debris, scrap lumber, mulch, sewage,
certain crops and
Some kinds of waste residue.
Biomass is a renewable energy because it contains the energy which comes from the sun.
Biomass is basically an organic material made from plants and animals. Through the process
of photosynthesis, chlorophyll present in plants absorbs the energy from the sun by
converting the carbon dioxide present in air and water from the ground into carbohydrates.
When these plants are burned, the same energy is released into the air they captured from the
sun.
Some biomass plants generate electricity by burning methane. Methane is a gas that can be
collected from landfills. These plants use a slightly different process than plants that burn
solid biomass. The products of burning methane, instead of steam, cause the turbine to spin.
As with solid biomass, the rotation of the turbine drives a generator.

GEOTHERMAL ENERGY

Geothermal energy is heat within the earth. The word geothermal comes from the Greek
words geo (earth) and thermal (heat). Geothermal energy is a renewable energy source
because heat is continuously produced inside the earth. People use geothermal heat for
bathing, for heating buildings, and for generating electricity. Geothermal energy comes from
deep inside the earth. The slow decay of radioactive particles in the earth's core, a process
that happens in all rocks, produces geothermal energy.
Geothermal power plants use hydrothermal resources that have both water (hydro) and heat
(thermal). Geothermal power plants require high-temperature hydrothermal resources—
300 degrees Fahrenheit (°F) to 700° F—that come from either dry steam wells or from hot
water wells. We use these resources by drilling wells into the earth and then piping steam or
hot water to the surface. The hot water or steam powers a turbine that generates electricity.
Some geothermal wells are as much as 2 miles deep.

ALL EQIPEMENTS OF SOLAR SYSTEM

ACDB and DCDB boxes are critical for safe electricity use because they serve as circuit
breakers when uncontrolled energy or an increased power surge flows through the
electric wires and to the distribution board.

ACDB stands for Alternating Current Distribution Box. It is installed between the solar
inverter and your home appliances. Among all the components of an ACDB box, two are
the primary ones.

1. AC Surge Protection Device (SPD) protects against power surges, by earthling the
high voltage.

2. AC MCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker) for low circuit current or AC Molded Case
Circuit Breaker (MCCB) for high circuit current, trips and breaks the circuit in case of
high voltage.
DCDB stands for Direct Current Distribution box and is installed between the solar
panels and the inverter. This box protects your solar inverter and panels from high
voltage and short circuits.

A DCDB box contains a DC SPD to protect against surges, a DC MCB, and a fuse that
breaks the circuit in case of high voltages.

AC/ Dc cable's

The DC cables is entirely different from the AC cable its construction is different;
the DC cables do power evacuation in a different way. We must not use AC cable for
DC power evacuation. DC cables can be seen in solar power plant, copper is the
major material used for the DC cable, and this material is used because of its better
flexibility, current carrying capacity, and also because of its thermal performance.
We won’t be able to see skin effect in DC cables as in AC cables and because of this,
the difference in copper per unit length would affect the power evacuation
capability of the cable.
Solar Panels

the ultimate requirement — solar panels are responsible for

harnessing electricity from sunlight.

The other hand, sunlight comprises innumerable particles of

energy called photons that capture the sun’s rays. The process
is termed the photovoltaic effect, and the panels are also called
photovoltaic solar panels.

The wonders that they are, solar panels are of many kinds.
Here’s a very brief guide on the best solar panels you can
choose from.

– Monocrystalline solar panels: Energy-efficient, heat-

resistant, and dark-coloured – these solar panels are based on
half-cut cell technology. They’re ideal for installation in areas
with partial shadow issues or space limitations.
– Polycrystalline solar panels: More affordable than
monocrystalline, these are blue-coloured panels with medium
efficiency.

– Passivated Emitter and Rear Contact cells (PERC) solar

panels: These are the most efficient solar panels that require less
space and provide the highest energy retention.

– Thin-film solar panels: Lightweight, flexible, easy-to-install

solar panels – they can adhere to any solid surface like glass, metal,
or plastic. Their cost is less compared to other panels.

Mounting Structures

Solar panels won’t produce optimal results if not installed in the

right way. A solar panel stand or mounting structure plays a very
crucial role when it comes to mounting the solar panels.

Following are the five different types of mounting structures you

can choose from

– Ground mounts: These are made from aluminum racking

supported by galvanized steel. They are ideal for open space
applications like solar farms. Ground mounted racks are attached
to the ground via footings or concrete pillars. No roof penetration
is needed, and they have a risk-free installation.

– Roof-mounted racks: This solar equipment is a stand that is

adjustable to fit the rooftops and hold the weight of the solar
panels. The installation cost is low too.

– Floaters: When you install solar panels on water, they are

mounted on interconnected plastic rafts that serve as floating
platforms on the water’s surface.

– Tracking system mounted racks: Suitable for solar water

pumping and tracking systems, they’re of two types – One-axis

And Two-axis. The one-axis mount measures the sun’s motion. The
two-axis mount employs PV concentration systems to track the
sun’s daily and seasonal path.

– Top-of-pole mounted racks: They anchor the PV solar panels

on poles, and their design prevents particle accumulation on the
solar panel.

– Side-of-pole mounted racks: These are variants of pole mounts with

support placed on the side of the pole. They are better options for places
with remote solar lighting systems.

Solar Inverters
Now that you know about the panels and their mounting, the next most
important solar energy equipment is the solar inverter.

Your solar panels produce a direct current charge, while you require an
alternating current in your house.

The inverter is that solar equipment that converts and regulates the energy
produced by solar panels. Precisely, a solar inverter converts direct current
into alternating current.
– Central inverters: Less expensive and more commonly used, these are
suitable for solar systems with large solar access. This equipment of solar
energy is installed indoors.
A central inverter is capable of converting the power produced by all of the
solar panels linked together.

– Micro Inverters: These are popular for household purposes. They are
suitable for areas where a part of the solar panel system stays temporarily
blocked from sunlight.
They are placed behind every individual solar panel, allowing monitoring and
analyzing of each module’s energy production levels. They are expensive but
grant a higher level of information access.

Battery-based inverters: These can be grid-interactive (on-grid)

or stand-alone (off-grid). They reduce grid power consumption
and provide you with a continuous power supply. They are
affordable and easy to maintain

Energy Meter or Bi-directional Meter

you can record the energy production via solar panels through an
energy meter. Discom mandates replacing an energy meter with a bi-
directional net meter in the residential solar system.

What is a bi-directional meter?

As the name suggests, this net meter can send electricity units to the
grid and import electricity from the grid as well.

Since a net meter records the power generated and the power
consumed, you pay the amount for the net units you consume.
Solar Accessories
Besides the aforementioned major solar equipment components, a
solar panel system also requires:

– AC cables
– DC cables
– AC combiner box
– DC combiner box
– Earthling strips
– Lightning arrester
– Conduit pipes for routing cables
– MC4 connectors
– Electrical connection components
Solar energy

Solar energy is radiant light and heat from the Sun that is harnessed using a range
of technologies such as solar power to generate electricity, solar thermal
energy (including solar water heating), and solar architecture. It is an essential
source of renewable energy, and its technologies are broadly characterized as
either passive solar or active solar depending on how they capture and distribute
solar energy or convert it into solar power. Active solar techniques include the use
of photovoltaic systems, concentrated solar power, and solar water heating to
harness the energy. Passive solar techniques include orienting a building to the
Sun, selecting materials with favorable thermal mass or light-dispersing properties,
and designing spaces that naturally circulate air.
On Grid Solar System
An on-grid or grid-tied solar system is a system that works along with the grid. This
means that any excess or deficiency of power can be fed to the grid through net
metering. Many residential users are opting for an On-grid solar system as they get a
chance to enjoy credit for the excess power their system produces and save on their
electricity bills. You will always have power either from the solar system or from the
grid. They do not have batteries.

Off Grid Solar System

An off-grid solar system is a solar panel system that generates electricity, stores that
power in solar batteries, and runs independently from the power grid. These systems
encourage off-the-grid living, a lifestyle centered on energy independence and self-
sustainability.

Hybrid Solar System

A hybrid solar system is a solar power system that uses solar panels, a hybrid inverter
and a battery bank. The solar panels convert sunlight into electricity, while the
batteries store energy for later use.

Hybrid solar systems have both on-grid and off-grid capabilities, allowing you to
continue running on solar power even if the grid goes dark.
