SAINT
BENEDICT
In the fifth century, the young Benedict was sent to Rome to finish his education with a
nurse/housekeeper
The subject that dominated a young man's study then was rhetoric -- the art of Persuasive
speaking.
The First Miracle: How he made a broken sieve whole and sound
Benedict, coming to
this foresaid place,
lived there in a
narrow cave, where
he continued three
years unknown to
all men, except to
Romanus.
St. Benedict, while he was alone, was tempted with an image of a woman
he had once seen. The temptation was so strong he almost left his solitude.
To get rid of the temptation, he threw himself into a bush filled with thorns to
overcome the sin. It was said that after this, he never experienced
such a thing and was free from temptation.
He accepted to take
charge of the
government of an
Abbey of a
monastery after
denying them for a
long time.
