Architectural Design Studio
Semester 3
BUA: 300 m2
The aim of the studio was to design a public space which caters to the needs of the local
community while also bringing the community closer together. The project is aimed at
creating a space for thinkers and workers alike. Located in the district of Mahalaxmipuram,
Banglore the intervention is situated in Siddaruda Park, between the two main walking lanes.

Hasiru is an open-to-all public library and organic farming hub located at the centre of the
park with multiple points of access and a light structure in order to make the space more
visually accessible and pleasing.

readily available. The paths leading
to the intervention branch off from
the main walking routes taken by
the users which enables them to
utilise the space as a thoroughfare
to the other walking lanes. The
organic garden is open to all and
can be used and maintained by the
community to help build the idea of
organic farming and healthy living.

Semester 4
BUA: 4800 m2
The aim of the studio was to design a student housing project for the students studying at Manipal
Academy of Higher Education and the surrounding colleges in the vicinty. The project was designed
with a focus on responding to the climate of the region.

The housing project is located in Manipal which has a warm and humid climate. The project was
designed keeping in mind the parameters required to minimise the dependence of the project on
mechanical ventilation through the use of shading devices, natural ventilation and passive cooling
strategies.

Chrysalis
Architectural Design Studio
Semester 6
BUA: 6000 m2
The intent of the project was to design a campus building in Bangalore University located on Mysore
Road, Bangalore. The campus was designed on an empty plot of land between the architecture and
civil engineering blocks making it an ideal space for students to intermix.

The site had an indigenous population of varius species of butterflies, whose conservation was given
priority in the design. Chrysalis is a research, conservation and breeding facility for the diminishing
population of the native butterflies. The campus houses various functions such as an academic block,
administrative block and research block along with refreshment areas and relaxation zones which act
as points of relief. The center of the campus has been left undisturbed and maintained as the butterfly
park which is where the current major movement of the butterflies was seen.

Once the butterflies have matured and

adapted to the surrounding climate they are
released from the domes into the butterfly
park. The domes are also used to house
endangered species of butterflies. Since
the butterflies appear on site seasonally,
the domes can be used to shelter the more
sensitive species during the harsher months
and they can be released during the other

BUA: 65000 m2
The aim of the studio was to design a multi-modal transit hub in the Kengeri

conducted in the region.

The project involved redesigning the existing BMTC bus terminal which exists

The transit hub was designed keeping in mind the high volume of built up area and
to try and break the mass of the structure by introducing open to sky bridges and
double and triple height spaces. The structure has the bus terminal on the ground floor
opening from the Mysore Road and the basement is used for the bus parking and bus
depot. The first floor of the structure is where the commercial functions take place
such as retail and the flea market. The site is divided into two portions - the private and
the public. The private has the function of the hotel and lodging. The third floor of the
structure is the food court and the restaurant along with seating that overlooks the
pedestrian path and cycling space on the ground floor.

The top floors of the main structure are the rentable office spaces and the co-working
space and at the top is the seminar hall. The main structure is linked to the hospitality
block through a bridge on the first floor which goes over the park underneath with
seating that overlooks the greenery below.

The structure has three service cores in the main building with two provided in the hospitality
block. The hospitality block rises to 11 floors and trumps the adjacent metro station. The
hospitality block acts as a monument on the site. The bus terminal and the hospital both
have vehicular access for pick-up and drop-off.

The parking for the hospitality is located below the bus terminal parking. The structure has
green terraces for relief for the users. The hospitality block connects to the metro station
platform at the 4th floor. The connection from the metro also leads to the open restaurant
which oversees the park and cycling path below.

The windows allow for maximum natural light to enter during the day to minize the use of
artificial light. The food court has a triple height ceiling to allow light and air to penetrate
the structure.
Kyozetsu
Architectural Design Studio
Semester 7
BUA: 40 m2
Located in Osaka, Japan, Kyozetsu is a rejected fruit
and vegetable vending space made from recycled
materials such as plastic and paper which is where the
name of the project emerges. The space is used for
vending fruits and vegetables that have been rejected
by supermarkets (due to bad shape, unappealing looks)
but are just as nutritious as well shaped fruits. The space
can be constructed and expanded over time with walls
being added like modular units. The vending space
has bins outside for collection of plastic and paper
waste which can be used to further build the structure.
Recycled steel taken from Haikyo’s (abandoned
buildings in Japan which became abundant after the
economic boom of Japan) are used as the structural
system of the space to hold up the roof which is made
from pressed sheets of recycled paper and plastic.
Plan

0 1 2
m

The walls of the space are a combination of bricks made from compressed plastic
and adhesive, gabion walls made from recycled plastic bottles and steel I-sections.
The veding space is linear with the vending spaces along the walls and the unmanned
cash counter at the end of the aisle. Reinforcement bars are used to support the roof.
These units can be constructed in several places along the Osaka River and can be
expanded as more recyclable material is collected. The name Kyozetsu comes from
the Japanese word for rejected.

There is also seating on the outside made from the compressed bricks of plastic and
adhesive

Droplet
Interior Design Studio
Semester 7
BUA: 400 m2
Located in Keonjhar, Orissa Droplet is a water research, storage and awareness
facility. The area surrounding the site has an abundance of water bodies which
over the years have discoloured to a bluish-green colour due to factors such as
leaching of mineral ions from the soil and growth of algae. The mineral leaching
happens due to the excessive mining which takes place in the region beacuse of
it’s rich iron deposits. The local residents began constructing more artifical lakes
and ponds around the area for irrigation purposes which were abandoned once
the water in them discoloured as mineral leached and algae infested water is unfit
of irrigation. As a result of this multiple man made lakes and ponds came up over
the years and were subsequently abandoned which led to a cycle of making and
abandoning without addressing the issue at hand.

Droplet is a space where the water samples can be collected from the nearby
water bodies which have been affected, stored and tested at the space for
impurities and sent for further testing via the airstrip beside which the site is located.

The space has a testing lab, classrooms where students and interns can get hands-
on experience with the testing, storage room for the samples currently undergoing
testing and a display area where the process of testing and treatment of the
water is illustrated by the previously tested samples of water, which are stored in
bottles and displayed in shelves in the order of sequence of treatment. The display
area is to raise awareness among the local communities about the effects of
contaminated water and how it can be treated.
