Peter the Rabbit

Once upon a time there were four little Rabbits, and their names were: Flopsy,
Mopsy, Cotton-tail, and Peter. They lived with their Mother underneath the root
of a very big tree. ‘Now my dears’ said Mrs. Rabbit ‘you may go into the fields, but
don’t go into Mr. Tom’s garden. Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cotton-tail, who were good
little bunnies, went down the lane to gather blueberries, but Peter, who was
naughty, ran to Mr. Tom’s garden! First he ate some lettuce and some French
beans, and then Mr. Tom saw him! He jumped up and ran after Peter, and calling
out, ‘Stop!’ Peter lost his shoes among the grass and potatoes. Peter sat down to
rest for a while. He began to cry. Then he tried to find the gate! Peter never
stopped running till he got home to the big tree. Peter was not very well during
the evening. His mother put him to bed and made tea; and gave some to Peter to
drink!

Please, Mum, please?’ “No Jack, if I hear one more word about getting a pet, you
won’t get anything at all,” said Mum. Finally, his birthday arrived. There were two
presents on his bed from his sister. He opened the first present. It was a
basketball. He opened the second present. It was a baseball. ‘Hello Jack,’ said his
mother. I have a big present for you. He opened it up. There was a food bowl and
a water bowl. Then he saw his mother carry in a big box. ‘Oh,’ said Jack. Look, two
pets are inside the big box! Jack was the happiest Child in the world!
