Wind turbines can turn the power of wind into the electricity
we all use to power our homes and businesses. President Barack Obama
says that most states that have wind turbines encourage their citizens to get
more opportunities of jobs and support the paychecks. On the other hand,
Congressman Craig Scott supposes that placing wind turbines can be
harmful to the local people’s physical and mental health. Nevertheless, I
totally agree with President Barack Obama since I assume that the positive
consequences of placing wind turbines outweigh the negative consequences
of that.
Firstly, we can seek the realistic history from Obama’s remarks
while we can find Craig Scott’s one-sided thinking in his speech. Obama
firstly mentions that the locals in Newton lost their jobs and nearly 2000
jobs were on the line after the major corporation “Maytag plant” in their
state, that offered many jobs to them, had been closed. Then, the president
says when he returned to Newton, he found that the local people were
offered job opportunities by the presence of wind turbines in their state. If
we compare to these two incidents, we can get that Obama logically
explains the effects on local people before building wind towers and then
after building them.
In addition, President Barack Obama describes enough
statistics in his remarks although Scott’s speech lacks the specific data.
Obama expresses his opinions that a lot of folks in Iowa will disagree to
stop building the wind towers and good jobs drown in Newton are not
imaginary. Then the statistic “Seventy-five thousand jobs across this
country depend on wind energy; 7,000 jobs in Iowa alone” follows his
opinion. Moreover, he states that Iowa generates about 20% of its
electricity from wind that are doubled the amount of electricity America
can generate from wind – from 25 gigawatts to 50 gigawatts, which is
equal to the building 12 new Hoover Dams. Thus, we can assume that
the reasons why the president brings up these facts are to express
gratitude for the wind tower workers for their hard work and to prove
how wind towers are beneficial to the locals.
Finally, President Barack Obama illustrates his reasonable
assumptions that 13 million homes have reliable energy sources and more
than 100,000 Americans are supported for paychecks by combing solar
energy and wind energy. Conversely, according to Scott’s speech, all of his
reasons why he wants to reject building wind towers are only based on a
one point. He just thinks about the health problems of the locals and forgets
to examine his reasons practically. Generally, the basic needs for a person
are just to get a job and enough salary that can resolve all of his family’s
financial problems. Consequently, on the topic of whether building wind
towers should be allowed or not, Obama‘s assumptions are more
reasonable and practical than Scott’s.
In sum, wind turbines should be kept on building in most of
the states as they play an important role in the local people’s livelihood and
using wind energy can give the locals many positive impacts. Additionally,
due to the President Barack Obama’s sensible history, enough statistics and
reasonable assumption in his remarks, I totally go along with him.
