You / We / They + were + not + rest of sentence.

Statement I was asleep by 8:00.


Question Was I asleep by 8:00?
Negative I was not asleep by 8:00.
Statement The bears were small.
Question Were the bears cute?
Negative They were not cute.
Statement It was sunny yesterday.
Question Was it sunny yesterday?
Negative It was not sunny yesterday.
