Densus 88 Arrests 59 Terrorist Suspects During October 2023

Jakarta - The National Police's Special Anti-terror Detachment (Densus) 88 recorded that they had
arrested 59 terrorist suspects throughout October 2023. These arrests were made in various regions in
Indonesia. Spokesperson for Densus 88 Anti-terror Police Commissioner Aswin Siregar said the terrorist
suspects came from the terrorist groups Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) and Jamaah Anshor Daulah (JAD)
networks. The arrests were made since early October. Aswin detailed that 19 JI terrorist suspects were
arrested from 2-13 October 2023. One person was arrested in West Sumatra, 1 person in West Java, 5
people in South Sumatra, 4 people in Lampung, 1 in West Kalimantan, and 7 in NTB.

"They are a structural network of Jemaah Islamiyah, which until now has not been enforced by law. This
reminds us again that the structural network of Jemaah Islamiyah still exists and continues to exist," said
Aswin at National Police Headquarters, South Jakarta, Tuesday (31/10 /2023).

"Not just sympathizers, they are people or personnel who occupy structural positions in the Jemaah
Islamiyah organization," he continued. Aswin said that the suspects were actively spreading terrorist
propaganda and radical materials on social media and in their activities. Then, said Aswin, on 27-28
October 2023, Densus again arrested 40 terrorism suspects from the JAD group who are supporters of
ISIS. The group, explained Aswin, was led by a person with the initials AU. If detailed, Densus 88
arrested 23 people in West Java, 11 people in DKI Jakarta and 6 people in Central Sulawesi. Aswin said
the JAD group planned to disrupt the smooth running of the 2024 elections

"This is a group led by the AU. There are so-called planned activities by this group to thwart or disrupt the
democratic election," explained Aswin. Furthermore, Aswin said that his party also carried out searches
and confiscations of terrorist suspects. What was confiscated was 1 AK47 firearm, ammunition,
magazines, pre-charged pneumatic or air rifle, sharp weapons, 1 revolver pistol and 17 revolver
ammunition.

"Then Densus also confiscated chemicals for making explosives such as sulfur, then Himalayan salt,
which is usually used to replace HCL which is used for explosives," said Aswin.

"And some have a lot of printed material as evidence that is used as material or as a tool for their
propaganda," he continued. Aswin emphasized that Densus 88 does not tolerate the slightest threat to
Indonesia's security. Moreover, he said, in the situation leading up to or in the 2024 election series.
