1 DESCRIPTION OF F400 TYPE WITHDRAWABLE METALCLAD
SWITCHGEAR
F400 equipment is designed for indoor installation. It is a range of functional units each made up of:
• a prefabricated air insulated panel in a metal enclosure of the LSC2B (Loss of Service Continuity
Category). The medium voltage parts are separated by metal partitions PM class, which are earthed,
according to IEC 62271-200
• a breaking equipment either withdrawable circuit breaker using SF6 or Vacuum as the breaking
medium, disconnector unit, or earthing unit,
• a protection and control system including a protection and control unit, current and voltage
transformers, and auxiliaries.
F400 range equipment offers a number of significant advantages, in order to reply efficiently to even the
most stringent of requirements:
• all operations are carried out with the envelope closed from the front of the panel (i.e.CB extraction
with door closed). Some installation and maintenance operations are performed from the rear of the
panel such as :
• a standard version, or full and certified internal arc protection 4 sides (AFLR) according to all 5 criteria
defined in the IEC 62271-200 standard,
• simplification of development and increased reliability through the use of functional units, made up of
elements manufactured by Schneider Electric which are designed to function together,
• very low maintenance costs, and service continuity,
• simple and safe operation through the use of coloured mimic diagrams and a comprehensive range of
internal security functions and interlocks.
2 APPLICABLE STANDARDS
The equipment proposed in this offer has been designed, manufactured, and tested according to the relevant IEC
recommendations:

4 GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE F400 RANGE
4.1 Panels
The panels are LSC2B (Metalclad), class PM (metallic partition) according to IEC 62271-200:
• The external enclosure and inter-compartment partitions are metal and are earthed.
• Insulating bushings between compartments allow for the passage of the main conductors.
• Earthed steel shutters, cover the fixed contacts whilst switchboard is disconnected.

4.1.1 Switchgear compartment
This compartment is closed by a door and contains:
• The breaking, or disconnector unit, in either the disconnected, in service or test position.
• The units disconnecting / connecting mechanism.
• The shutter opening / closing mechanism.
• The connecting plug for the unit electrical control signals.
• The capacitive dividers which indicate voltage presence (VPIS).
4.1.2 Cables connection compartment
In accordance with the type of cubicle this compartment may contain:
• The MV cable connection pads.
• The earth switch (with making capacity).
• The lightning arrester (optional please consult us)
• The anti-condensation heating element.
• The current transformers.
• The fixed or disconnectable voltage transformers by means of their withdrawable integrated fuses.
The busbar compartment is accessible from the rear of the cubicle, by removing the bolted plates.
Busbar:
A bare copper busbar made of a cylindrical section bar, shall ensure the flow of power within the
switchboard: the bar shall be identical within each cubicle composing the switchboard. They shall be
bolted to each other and to the cubicle power circuits on the operating site. A tinned or silvered coating &
sheath can be proposed as option for the most difficult environments.
Tappings:
The tappings are the parts of the power circuit which are between the breaking device and the main bus
bar.

4.1.4 The low voltage compartment
This compartment is located in the upper part of the cubicle, on the front, and is included in the
overall volume of the cubicle.
It shall be accessible, with the cables and busbar energized, by means of a door that can be locked out
by handle with or without key.
The circuit breakers use SF6 or Vacuum as insulating and interrupting medium.
SF Range

HVX Range
The circuit breaker is mounted on the racking in/out truck and can be positioned as follows:
• in the in service position ("connected") in the switchboard compartment,
• in the test position ("disconnected") in the switchboard compartment,
• in the withdrawn position ("extracted")

4.3 Disconnector truck
The disconnector truck enables the upper and lower parts of the panel to be short-circuited. It is installed
instead of the circuit breaker and has the same locking possibilities.

4.6 Protection and control units
Each functional unit in the F400 range is equipped with a protection and control system adapted to the function
required.

4.7 Current transformers
F400 Type1 cubicles are fitted with functional current transformers. These transformers are integrated into
the power bushings on which, the fixed racked-in contacts are mounted.
The current transformers have one, two or three 1A or 5A secondary windings. They comply with IEC
standards.
Additionally, one set of either DIN format current transformers, or toroid LV current transformers, installed
on isolated MV cables, can be connected on incomer and/or feeder cubicles when more than 3 secondary
are necessary.
F400 Type 2 cubicles receive basically some conventional DIN format current transformers. One additional
set of, either toroid LV current transformers, or Low Power Current Transformers (LPCT), current probe
with voltage output, can be fitted and installed on isolated MV cables.
Each wire extremity is marked with a pre-printed Raychem HSI ring, solidly fixed to the wire extremity.
Wire identification is in conformity with the wiring diagrams and uses bidirectional marking.
Each wire extremity is equipped with a crimped connector.
Wires are provided with protectors where there is a risk of deterioration through contact with metal elements (i.e.
rubbing).
All low voltage terminals (auxiliary supplies, control cables, etc) are situated on the top of the LV
compartments. These terminal blocks are identified by labels in conformity with the wiring diagrams and are also
used for connection between the switchboard and any eventual remote control devices.
For connecting the LV cables to the terminals, it is recommended to have a minimum of 3000 mm
head room in order to have some working and access space. For a lower head room, please consult
us.

5 ANTI CORROSION PROTECTION AND FINISHING
In order to allow equipment to be installed under severe climatic conditions, the following measures are
systematically adopted:
• The visible external surfaces on the front of the panels are made of electro-plated sheet steel (zinc
thickness: 2,5µm).
• Painted surfaces are cleaned prior to painting using a phosphate cleaning treatment. The paint itself is
a polymerised epoxy polyester powder mix (the average thickness of the polymerised film is 50µm).
