Communication Skills

This will go in Teams and be posted on your CLC Portfolio Page.

Think back to the back-to-back drawing, speed dating, Escape the Boon and the mock
interviews.
Please reflect on all 3 activities when answering the following questions:
Remember to use part of the question in your answer.
1. How would you rate your communication skills? (Extending, Proficient, Developing,
Emerging)
Why?

I personally think that my communication skills are proficient-extending. Whether it's in

writing or in person, I believe I can usually communicate my ideas and opinions in a
clear way. I think I communicated best while interviewing the grade 10’s for the mock
interviews. I think I deserve an extending for those interviews as I spoke extremely clear
and when they asked me questions, I had a good answer to the best of my ability as
quickly as I could. I hardly had to look at my paper after the first interview as I
memorized most of the questions and I switched up some of the words to my
preference to make it sound clearer for the grade 10’s. I don’t think anyone had
troubles understanding what my partner and I were asking. I also think I did very well
during the back to back drawing activity. When I was explaining the picture to my
partner of what to draw, I made sure to explain all of the smell details and not leave
anything out. In the end, the drawings my partners had drew were pretty accurate and
only had some small errors. I believe that all of these communication activities helped to
improve my communication skills and had a benefit on me for the future. I am glad I
participated the best I could because they all had a good benefit for me. Since there is
always space for development and successful communication is a lifetime learning
process, this constant commitment to progress is crucial.
2.How can you improve your communication skills?
I would say that I am already good at talking to people, but I want to get even better and as
good as I possibly can. To improve, I will listen carefully when others speak, try to
understand their feelings and emotions, and adjust how I talk to fit different situations. I'll
ask for some advice from trusted people to improve. I'll also pay attention to my body
language and facial expressions and make sure my eye contact is always good and my body
posture is good. During the practice interviews with the class, I didn’t have amazing eye
contact and body language. I was looking elsewhere and around the class as I got anxious
while answering questions, for the actual interviews with the grade 10’s, I improved by
making sure my eyes were looking at the person and that my body posture was sitting up
tall and not slouching. I can improve in the future by doing practice interviews with a friend
or family member and getting feedback from them before my real interview.

3. Do you feel confident to market yourself in an Interview?

Why or why not? Use detailed examples.

I do feel confident to market myself in an interview because I think practice makes

perfect and over the last month, I have had lots of practice and improvement on my
communication skills. I also always practice before I go to a real job interview. I have had
2 job interviews before and I practiced beforehand with my mom and got feedback from
her as she has had many interviews throughout her life, and she knows better than I
would about what to do. My partners that I have had in our communication practice
games have also given me good feedback on my interviewing skills and my ability to
answer questions as best as I can. During speed dating, I was able to hold a conversation
for almost the entire time for all of them. I think I can answer and ask questions very
well.
