Communication Skills

This will go in Teams and be posted on your CLC Portfolio Page.

Think back to the back-to-back drawing, speed dating, Escape the Boon and the mock
interviews.
Please reflect on all 3 activities when answering the following questions:
Remember to use part of the question in your answer.
1. How would you rate your communication skills? (Extending, Proficient, Developing,
Emerging)
Why?
USE DETAILED EXAMPLES FROM THE ACTIVTITES WE HAVE DONE IN CLASS TO SUPPORT
YOUR RATING!!!!

I would say my communication skills is at a Proficient/Extending. I would say this

because during Speed Dating I excelled when associating with people and I could come
up with certain side topics that were also fun and interesting to talk about. The Back-to-
Back drawing activity was fun to do but it was difficult because everyone understanding
things different and interprets ideas differently. This made it really hard for me because
I had to adjust my language and dialogue to make it easier for others to understand me.
On the other hand, during the Escape the Room challenge I completely gave up because
that game was rigged. I think my groups communication skills were pretty good, the
game was just harder than expected and we all confused each other. Lastly, we did the
mock interviews with the grade 10’s and I think that went well. I think my partner and I
communicated well the kids and they felt comfortable with us however, they were
nervous and were unprepared so they could have done so much better. Overall, I think
my communication skills were pretty good, obviously I could have done much better but
I think I did well.

2. How can you improve your communication skills?

I can improve my communication skills by:
- Being clear and concise with my language.
- Watching my tone and my body language.
- Being attentive and asking questions relevant to the topic.
- Clarifying for individuals who do not understand a certain subject or topic. And asking
for clarification from others.
- Not assuming and letting people continue to elaborate.
- Making eye contact with another person (the one you are talking to).
- Being mindful of the people you are talking to. Adjusting language/word choice.

3. Do you feel confident to market yourself in an Interview?

Why or why not? Use detailed examples.

I feel confident enough to market myself in an interview because I am open minded,

optimistic, understanding and flexible. This is because being open minded means I am
receptive to listening to others thoughts, ideas and perspectives. An example of this is
during class when we are asked to collaborate with others. By being open-minded, it
allows me to learn and adapt to new situations that I have not been exposed to before.
Employers will understand that I am willing to grow, which is something all employers
are looking for. I am also confident. By being confident in a workplace, people will be
able to view me as a capable and competent individual. An example of this is in class
when I speak up and share my ideas. Even if I was unsure of something, by being
confident, assertive and sharing my ideas, I can make a good impression on my
interviewee. Lastly, I am a flexible individual. An example of this is when I am told to do
something I am uncomfortable with or unsure of. I am able to put my nervousness aside
and help assist my classmates and peers.
