Big Bird RMH Broiler Farm
Introduction
This is the Rana Muhammad Hayat farm locally known by this name. Company is
paying the rent for this farm. In this farm there are totally 4 sheds which are fully
controlled.
Farm has been divided into different sections;
1. Entrance with security check.
2. 4 sheds on left side to gate.
3. Electrical maintenance room includes generator
4. Office area
5. Mess and labor colony
Directions
Each shed as the direction from north to south and distance between each shed is
100 feet.
Dimensions and specifications
Shed 1
Length = 380 feet
Width = 78 feet
Area = Length × Width
380 × 78 = 2964
Space required for one bird = 0.8 square feet
Capacity = Shed area ÷ Space required by bird
2964 ÷ 0.8 = 3705 birds
Total Fans = 19 each fan has capacity of 20000 CFM
Total Pads = 03
Front pad = Length 78 feet Height 6 feet
Side pad = Length 60 feet Height 6 feet
Total vents = 48
One vent = Height 12 inches, Length 18 inches
Shed 2
Length = 420 feet
Width = 45 feet
Area = Length × Width
420 × 45 = 18900
Space required for one bird = 0.8 square feet
Capacity = Shed area ÷ Space required by bird
18900 ÷ 0.8 = 23625 birds
Total Fans = 10 each fan has capacity of 20000 CFM
Total Pads = 03

Shed 3
Length = 480 feet
Width = 50 feet
Area = Length × Width
480 × 50 = 24000
Space required for one bird = 0.8 square feet
Capacity = Shed area ÷ Space required by bird
24000 ÷ 0.8 = 30000 birds
Total Fans = 10 each fan has capacity of 20000 CFM
Total Pads = 03
Front pad = Length 50 feet Height 6 feet
Side pad = Length 55 feet Height 6 feet
Total vents = 48
One vent = Height 12 inches, Length 18 inches
Shed 4
Length = 480 feet
Width = 50 feet
Area = Length × Width
480 × 50 = 24000
Space required for one bird = 0.8 square feet
Capacity = Shed area ÷ Space required by bird
24000 ÷ 0.8 = 30000 birds
Total Fans = 10 each fan has capacity of 20000 CFM
Total Pads = 03
Front pad = Length 50 feet Height 6 feet
Side pad = Length 55 feet Height 6 feet
Total vents = 48
One vent = Height 12 inches, Length 18 inches
Feeding
Feed is started from day one as 12 gm per chick. From that day feed should be
increased 4gm per day per bird. Here feed is increased according to weight gain
ratio of birds. If weight is increased more than average weight than feed will be
increased up to 5 – 6 gm per bird or may be lowered according to lower weight
gain.
Feed timing is not specific feed is given adlibitum or according to need of chicks.
In routine observation feed is given 3 times a day in morning, 4pm and 10pm.
Starter
Feed number 24 is used as starter and fed for 10 days.
Grower
Feed number 14 is used as grower and fed up to 25 days.
Finisher
Feed number 15 is used as finisher and fed up to 35 days or up to ideal weight of
sale.
Weight gain & FCR
On the daily routine basis weight gain and FCR is observed wile for record and
estimation it is taken also on weekly basis. On weekly basis weight average weight
gain of birds is;
07 days – 180 gm
14 days – 400 gm
21 days – 950 gm
28 days – 14500 to 1500 gm
35 days – 1900 to 2000 gm
According to company rules sale of birds is started from weight of 1700 grams.
FCR = Feed given / Weight gain
At day 7 feed was given 33 grams and birds gained the weight of 24 grams
according to formula;
33 / 24 = 1.37
Lower FCR with high weight gain indicates the good property and good
formulation feed. It means low feed was consumed and weight gain was good.
For Example:
If at the end of flock the total FCR is 1.54 that means 1540 grams feed was
consumed per kg.
Watering
Water is provided abundantly to whole flock and medicine is also provided via
watering system and each time ensure that water line is not damaged otherwise it
will wet the litter that will cause more problems in flock.
Bedding or Litter material
Rice husk is used as bedding and thickness is maintained up to 2 inches and
changed according to environment. In bulk density it is given 5kg per meter
square. Racking of litter material is started after 1st 5 days of flock because it is not
conditional to rack in early age.
Mainly racking is performed were litter material is wet. If it is low wet then
racking is performed if it is much wet due to damage of water line then it is
recommended to replace the litter material. In case of any disease problem relating
to litter material also replace the litter.
Light management
For 1st 10 days light is kept on for 24 hours wile their intensity is reduced each day
by reducing some bulbs or by wrapping a paper on bulbs. After 10 days light is
kept off for specified time at specific intervals.
In start it is kept off for 30 minutes. Two times each time for 15 minutes. Later
light off duration is increase to 30 minutes a time. At the end of flock that duration
will be 6 hours at the intervals of 2 hours after 2 hours of gap.
Shed Climate
In start of flock temperature is maintained in between of 29℃ to 31℃ while
humidity is maintained in between of 60% to 65%. In older age flock temperature
is kept up to 27℃ and maximum is level of humidity is 70% in summer is season it
can fluctuate up to 80%.
Shed climate is maintained by the different ventilation systems to maintain the
relative humidity and temperature of the shed.
Relative humidity + Temperature ≥ 90
It must not be lowered than 90. To maintain the temperature of shed which
ventilation system is best is decided according to the ±5 of the target temperature.
If temperature deviates 1℃ then air flow must be 75 cubic feet / minute if it is 2℃
then it will be 150 cubic feet / minute.
Ventilation Systems
Minimum Ventilation
The minimum amount of ventilation (air volume) required to maintain full genetic
potential by ensuring an adequate supply of oxygen. It is used to remove high
moisture and to keep litter quality good. In tis we set the fans on timers to run for
required time at required intervals.
When temperature decreases – 5 than target temperature then vents are opened to
meet the requirements of air. Air requirement will be 75 cubic feet / minute for
1℃.
One vent has the length of 18 inches and if opened up to 6 inches than one vent
will provide;
First calculate inches into feet
Length: 18 / 12 = 1.5 square feet
Width: 06 / 12 = 0.5
Length × Width
1.5 × 0.5 = 0.75 square feet
One vent will provide 0.75 square feet by opening 6 inches and we will open the
required number of vents.
Transitional ventilation
This is used to increase house air exchange without creating high air speeds across
the birds. The transitional ventilation typically includes 40% - 50% of the total
tunnel ventilation capacity.
In this fans operate on a thermostat if temperature is fluctuating in between 5
degrees of target temperature. In this vents and pads are opened according to need.
Tunnel ventilation
Tunnel ventilation systems are used to moderate the effects of seasonal
temperature fluctuations and are particularly effective during hot weather. If
temperature increases +5 then pads are opened according to their area of passing
air through them.
Moreover this system is used to produce the wind chill effect by increasing the air
flow speed by opening pads and running fans.
Medication
Medicines available in stock are mostly used in drinking water to
administer.
