SECULAR MUSIC

This refers to the music that is not religious in nature.


Examples of secular music are Harana and Balitaw.

HARANA

This is a traditional song sung by men to express their feelings of love or appreciation to
women by singing below their window at night. A guitar is frequently used to accompany it.

KUMINTANG

Originating in Balayan Batangas, Kumintang is music with a three-time signature that was
initially written as a war song but is now used to convey topics like love and bitterness.

POLKA

The 19th century dance coming from Bohemian known as Polka is identi ed by its rapid, jumpy
and lively moves. The music has a 2/4 time signature, and it is a couple dance.

BALITAW

Balitaw is a traditional Visayan song that is often written in a 3/4 time signature.

KUNDIMAN

A traditional love song from the Philippines called "Kundiman" is derived from the phrase
"Kung hindi man." Its melody is distinguished by a soothing beat that ows smoothly and
dramatic intervals. In Tagalog, it is written.
