What is a sentence?

A sentence is a group of words that is complete


in itself
Parts of Sentence
1. SUBJECT
COMPLETE

› Noun à A cat, the table, father, the nurse

Types of Subjects:
1. Simple subjects à The girl, a stone
2. Complete subject à a short story about
an old town
3. Compound subject à my sister and I
PREDICATE
› Verb à read, sit, play (transitive and intransitive)
› Auxilliary verb à has/have/had, do/does/did
Words describing an action of the subjects
› to be (linking verb)à is, am, are, was, were
Types of predicate:

A noun (pronoun) governed by a verb or a
