PARTS OF A SENTENCE

1. The subject is the part of the sentence that


is talked about. It can be a noun, a
pronoun, or a noun phrase.
Noun - person, thing, animal place
Pronoun - he, she, it, we, they, I
Noun phrase - a noun and its modifier
Ex. Corona virus is very contagious.
They travelled around the world.
2. The predicate is the part that tells
something about the subject. It can be a
verb or verb phrase.

Ex. I looked out and spotted him there.

Rachel likes to sketch using charcoal.


Each part of a sentence could be simple or compound.
A. 1. Simple Subject – refers to a noun or a
pronoun
Ex. Children enjoy indoor and outdoor games.
They like to play hide and seek.
2. Compound Subject – refers to two or more
nouns or pronouns
Ex. You and I study very well.
Mother, father and Lea jog everyday.
C. 1. Complete Subject – refers to the noun
phrase (the simple subject and all
the words that modify it).

Ex. The tall boy stays at the back.


Our strict teacher disciplines us.
B. 1. Simple Predicate – refers to the verb
Ex. You dance gracefully.
Rich and poor kids love pets.
2. Compound Predicate – refers to two or
more verbs
Ex. Bob looks and asks for directions.
The dog jumps, runs and eats.
3. Complete Predicate – refers to the
verb phrase (the simple predicate
and all the words that modify it)

Ex. He helps me pack my things.


Parents take care of their children.
